The Belgian Malinois is not your typical family dog.

They are great dogs.

But with high work ethic, they need the perfect combination of stimulation, physical activity, and socialization.

They do not work well for the average pet family.

The Belgian Malinois is a wonderful service dog that is both loyal and intelligent. They are easy to train and they follow instructions carefully. Because of their calm disposition, they serve as excellent emotional support and therapy dogs. They are known to help people calm down much easier thanks to their attentiveness.

In relation to temperament, the Belgian Malinois is known for its protective, confident and responsive nature. They are also good with kids and if properly trained they can make a good house pet. These dogs are known for their high energy levels which means they require a lot of exercises to stay in good condition.

Quick Note: The Belgian Malinois is one of the top-tier dogs for protection. Often categorized with German Shepherd protection dogs, Doberman Protection dogs, and Rottweiler protection dogs! Just because the Belgian Malinois wasn’t originally bred to be a protection dog doesn’t mean it isn’t the perfect dog to protect you.

The answer is no. Belgian Malinois aren’t used in law enforcement and for protection because they are dangerous, and instead, they are used for their intelligence and ability to learn.
