Ear mites are barely visible to the naked eye and highly contagious to other animals. Your veterinarian can easily determine whether a dogs ear problem is caused by yeast or mites by taking a swab from their ear and looking at it under a microscope.

This makes dogs more prone to ear infections. Ear infections are typically caused by bacteria, yeast, or a combination of both. In puppies, ear mites can also be a source of infection.

Are dog ear infections contagious? Ear mites are very contagious from dog to dog, or from dog to cat, but it does not affect other species, nor do they affect humans. Bacterial ear infections. They are manifested by severe pain in the ear, and by the presence of pus and sometimes bleeding in the duct.

The chosen treatment depends on what actually caused the disease. Some ear infections may even be contagious. So if you have other dogs inside your home, make sure that they don't associate too much with the infected dog. Many ear infections can be treated with a professional cleaning followed by regular cleaning and medication given at home.

If the infection is caused by bacteria or yeast they are not considered contagious. Some animals are predisposed to ear infections and are not necessarily considered contagious (again, unless it is caused by ear mites). Articles that might be helpful to you are Ear Infections in dogs (Otitis Externa) and Ear Mites in Dogs. Best of luck! Dr. Debra

Although yeast infections of the ear aren't contagious between dogs, they can develop into bacterial infections or make your dog susceptible to other fungal and parasitic infections, which may be contagious.

If your dog swims or is bathed frequently, trapped water or debris in the ear canal can lead to yeast infections. Allergens like pollens, mold, dust, feathers, cigarette smoke, cleaning products,...

Ear mites are also very contagious and move from one pet to another very easily. If your dog spends plenty of time outdoors, then they are susceptible to ear mites. Fortunately, ear mites are relatively easy to treat. So, be sure to phone your veterinarian if you suspect your dog is affected.

Many dog owners are asking the question whether the yeast infection is contagious. If you have a pet that has a yeast infection or is suspected to have such an infection, you need to know if you need to protect yourself, your family or the other pets in your household. The Yeast Infection Is Not Contagious to Other Pets. The yeast cells cause a yeast infection when they overgrow.
