The pet policy changes with the season. There are some places within the park where dogs are permitted and others where they are not. I tried to include a link to the web page but that was not allowed so the information below was copied directly from the State of Marylands web page on Assateague Island state park as of July 8th, 2017.

Several parks have additional hours between 4-5pm. Offices at the busier parks are open 9am-5pm. Weekend office hours vary. Pets . Pets must be on a leash or other physical restraint at all times. Columbia State Historic Park is pet-friendly. Dogs are welcome to join their owners at this historic gold rush town. Made into a state park in 1945, you can stroll the streets and imagine the inhabitants going about their day to day lives during the gold rush. This park can be accessed every day of the week from 10am to 5pm.

The park operates daily from 9am to 5 pm. They are closed on Thankgiving and Christmas days.

Dogs must be on a maximum 6-foot leash at ALL times and physically under your control. Vicious or unusually noisy dogs will not be allowed in the park. Dogs must not be left unattended. Overnight campers must keep their dog in a tent or vehicle.
