The Irish Wolfhound may sound like the breed hails from Ireland, but in actuality, it is far older and arose from a pairing between giant British Isles dogs with racing hounds from the Middle East. Developed to be ferocious hunters to the big game, these dogs are known to have a gentle, easygoing temperament at least until they start running.
