The delicate, white, nondescript looking mushroom is the cause of most fatal mushroom poisonings in people and pets. The mushroom is more common in Europe but is also found throughout North America, where it has been introduced wherever European flora has been transplanted.

In fact, some mushrooms are toxic to dogs, possibly contributing to liver or kidney damage. And veterinarians and mushroom experts believe that mushroom toxicity often goes unreported and is a common cause of dog fatalities. Dogs and some kinds of mushrooms can be a deadly combination.

And if the mushrooms in question are confirmed to be toxic to dogs, be sure to keep your dogs out of the yard (or at least that part of the yard) until the mushrooms are removed or sectioned off. If you have mushrooms in your yard, take a look at the articles and resources below.

toxic
can cause life-threatening problems in pets. Take extra care to keep pets away from areas where

Wild mushrooms growing in the lawn may be harmful to dogs, so it is unwise to allow dogs to eat mushrooms found outdoors. Most little brown mushrooms in yards are harmless, but pet owners need to remove all mushrooms from their yards for safety's sake.

While the large majority of lawn mushrooms are not poisonous, there are a handful that are toxic for dogs, cats and children and they can even be lethal in the worst cases. Even though almost 99% of mushrooms are not poisonous, it is very difficult for anyone other than experts to distinguish between the harmless species and the toxic strains.
