The Kuvasz (plural: Kuvaszok) is a large to giant sized purebred dog that originated in Hungary around 900 A.D. The breed makes an excellent guard and watch dog and are incredibly loyal to anyone they consider a family member. Kuvasz are good family dogs, but are independant which can make training difficult.

It can get domineering. It's friendly towards children but perhaps not playful enough. It's also likely to protect the children in its adopted family from other children. It can get aggressive towards other dogs and strangers. One of the oldest dog breeds of Hungarian descent, the Slovakian Kuvasz was a favorite guard dog for the noble classes.

Reproductive cycle of the female Kuvasz: The first period called Proestrus lasts for about 9 days. During this time the females start to attract males. You can notice by swelling vulva and bloody discharge. The second part is the Estrus when the bitch is receptive for the male. It lasts for about 3 to 11 days.

If you live in Albania full-time and have a car, that part is going to cost you. Automobiles are more expensive here than they are in many other European countries, plus gas prices are quite high considering what salaries are like. You can easily spend €20,000 on a basic compact manual sedan.

Kuvasz can be etymologized the same way as Magyar kovács and kovász; see here: The middle ‘v’ is probably (or can be seen as) a connector, so what we have here is Ku-Asz. The etymon KU means Light and also dog in a number of languages (think Dog Star; an important marker in all cultures). Asz means Ász = Ős = ancestor in Magyar. The mythical dog ancestor theme is also known around the world.
