Sporting Lucas Terriers are small dogs with very short legs and a long body. They typically stand at around 30 centimetres tall. They have a wiry coat that is medium to long in length. They also have a dense undercoat, which keeps out moisture and cold temperatures. Their coat colours vary, but two different combinations have emerged.

Whilst the Sporting Lucas terrier had a small infusion of Lucas in its ancestry (2 dogs) it was created from a number of different breeds that would never be incorporated into Lucas lines.
