To answer your specific question, no this is not a side effect of Cephalexin But it could be a side effect of steroids if this is the shot that your vet gave Chloe. Steroids can cause increased thirst and urination; if she is drinking enough water, then she might leak. It is also possible that the leaking is totally unrelated if: 1. Chloe is spayed 2. The leaking only happens when she's asleep or laying down.

Cephalexin can cause severe skin reactions in rare cases. In these circumstances, call your veterinarian immediately. This antibiotic drug's effects should wear off in 24 hours, but they may last longer in dogs with kidney or liver disease.

Birth defects can cause incontinence in both male and female dogs. The most common defect is ectopic ureter. The ureters are supposed to connect the kidneys and the bladder, but in ectopic ureter, one or both of the ureters is not connected properly. Thus, urine cannot pass from the kidneys to the bladder and dogs drip urine.

If the urinary incontinence is new and the dose of furosemide has not been increased, a urinary tract infection or true urinary incontinence unrelated to diuretics may be the cause. Julie Ann, Vet Tech

Although urinary incontinence is not an official side effect of Cephalexin, I found a few results including this blog post. There wasn't too much on it, just a few individual people theorizing that Cephalexin could be causing their dog's sudden urinary incontinence. We stopped the Cephalexin, and the incontinence stopped immediately.

Causes of Urinary Incontinence in Dogs. The most common cause of incontinence among neutered dogs is hormone deficiency, which affects the sphincter muscles that enable a dog to hold urine in the bladder. Birth defects, nerve damage, and age-related problems are also common causes that may or may not be successfully treated.

So, he can get sick again, only this time the bacteria will be more drug - resistance. That is a bad thing. He can end up more sick than he was and it be more difficult to treat. SO, you need to go back to the vet. I am hoping you have a vet you like and trust. If not, then you may need to get a second opinion.

Urinary tract infections and/or stones can also cause urinary incontinence in dogs. Some steroidal medications can also cause urinary incontinence in dogs. Steroids are synthetic hormones that are used to treat several health issues in dogs. Unfortunately, one of the side effects of steroids can be increased thirst.

Rarely, cephalexin in dogs causes lameness or motor issues. These incidents occur most often in large breeds, generally bigger than Labrador retrievers. If you have a very large Lab, ask your vet about whether your dog can take cephalexin. Can you give human Cephalexin to dogs. Although cephalexin treats many types of infections.
