Can Dog Eat Gummy Bears?

You should avoid giving gummy bears to your dogs because the gummy bear is unsafe for your dog. There are some ingredients present in gummy bears that are harmful to your dog’s health. On the other hand, Excessive intake of gummy bears causes gastrointestinal problems.

Why gummy bears are unsafe for your doggie?

Gummy bears included some toxic ingredients like sugar and an artificial sweetener like xylitol. Sweet and sour gummy bears are available in different shapes and sizes in markets. Moreover, Xylitol is present in gummy bears that are very dangerous for your dog’s health.

Xylitol:

It is an artificial sweetener used in candies, jellies, or lollipops alternative to sugar and it is extremely toxic to dogs. This chemical is found in sugar-free gummy bears. Additionally, Xylitol affects your doggie’s digestive system and leads to vomiting. If your dog intakes a small amount of xylitol it absorbs very quickly into the bloodstream and activates your dog’s pancreas to release insulin. When the sugar level is increased in the body, insulin is released that can lower your blood sugar level. The same is the thing insulin does with your pup. The lowering of blood sugar levels is called hypoglycemia. The symptoms of xylitol poisoning will appear just within 10 to 15 minutes. It includes gastrointestinal problems leading to vomiting, feels difficulty in breathing, difficulty in walking, weakness, and lack of coordination.

Sugar:

In contrast, Some gummy bears cannot contain xylitol, then it is confirmed that these gummy bears contain sugar and gelatin. Sugar is very harmful to your doggie’s health. Too much sugar leads to obesity and high sugar levels called diabetes, which is life-threatening.

Choking Hazard:

Another issue that you will need to worry about is if you feed a regular diet of gummy bears they may present a choking hazard. The small size gummy bears can easily stuck in your dog’s teeth and throat and damaged your doggie’s teeth.

CONCLUSION:

In simple words, gummy bears are not saved for your Dog. Gummies are highly sweetened with the toxic material xylitol, which is very harmful to your dog. Xylitol contains a lot amount of sugar which is very toxic for your dog. If your dog eats gummies then it leads to gastroenteritis which is a very painful condition that leads to diarrhea and vomiting. Your dog may become dehydrated after losing the fluid in the body like water. Moreover, it leads to low BP, and your dog may feel weakness and dizziness. That is why your dog may become sick and if your dog gets the disease then instantly consult with the veterinarian.
