Dogs can easily digest the flesh and bones of their prey and the partly digested stomach contents.

Dogs also eat fruits and other vegetable matter, but are unable to digest the cellulose plant fibres as their short gut is used to digestion of meat.

Good quality protein should form 25% of a balanced canine diet.
