In order for dogs to have enough poppy seeds to actually feel stoned from these opiates, they would have to ingest a far larger amount than they could ever consume. Nevertheless, this does not mean poppy seeds are safe or OK for dogs to eat, and there are other reasons for why you should never give poppy seeds to your dogs.

Ingestion of any part of the plant can result in sedation or an excited (e.g., euphoric) state. Clinical signs of poppy or opioid poisoning include inappetance, crying, pinpoint pupils (dogs), dilated pupils (cats), or staring off into space.

Poppy seeds are extremely toxic to dogs. As a matter of fact, any part of a poppy plant is poisonous for your dog. Depending on the species of plant the seeds are from, the toxicity level may be higher or lower as well. While some have higher strengths of opiates, some may be more toxic than others for your pet.

Can Dogs Have Poppy Seed Dressing No, dogs should not eat poppy seed dressing. Even though there might not be enough poppy seeds in dressing to cause a toxic reaction, there are other ingredients in the dressing that are bad for your dog.
