Cefuroxime is an antibiotic used to treat some bacterial infections in dogs. The FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) has approved this drug for use in humans but it is not officially approved for use in animals. You and your veterinarian can discuss with why this drug is the most appropriate choice.

Since the Cefuroxime axetil is an oral antibiotic, it won't do any good for your pet's ear infection. What your pup needs is an ear swab cytology (to make sure whether you're dealing with a bacterial infection or an overgrowth of yeast) and topical medication from your regular vet. I hope this helps.
