Apply direct pressure with a sterile cloth or gauze, do not use cotton wool as the fibres can contaminate wounds.

An open wound should be dressed where possible.

Carefully clip back hairs, after this you could apply Neosporin, Polysporin or an antiseptic ointment.

Apply a non-adherent dressing to keep the wound clean.

Polysporin products can be effective when used to treat a variety of mild skin and ear and eye infections. Although most of these products can be used safely for a limited period of time on dogs there are restrictions including avoiding its use in dogs having chronic or deep infections.
