Hey, hey!! Chloe here….I am on the search for my forever family. Could it be you??
I was surrendered to FBV from a local shelter when after extensive testing, they could not resolve my gastrointestinal issues. You see, I was surrendered because I was suffering from chronic urinary and fecal incontinence. Multiple tests were run, and it was found that I had an ectopic ureter and inflammatory bowel disease.
Upon coming to FBV, I was seen by an internal medicine specialist who did an ultrasound guided laser ablation of my ectopic ureter which appears to have resolved my urinary incontinence. Although, this will need to be monitored in the future for any repeated issues. I was also diagnosed with inflammatory bowel/ulcerative colitis with both allergic and inflammatory components. The allergic component has been addressed with a hydrolyzed protein diet (Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein- dry and canned) but sadly the inflammatory process is ongoing. I will require lifelong monitoring as well as medication and dietary restrictions.
I have environmental allergies as well which require Cytopoint injections every 5 weeks and medicated baths and foaming foot treatments. I tolerate the baths and foot treatments like a champ and have no issues taking the other medication (Marbofloxacin) that I need daily.
I have been told that I act very much like a puppy in terms of play and energy. I love to play with other dogs but also equally love going on walks with my humans. I would love to have a similar dog in my forever home as a playmate although this is not a requirement. However, if I don’t have a playmate, I will need regular stimulation and play with my humans.
So far, I have gotten along with ALL people of ALL ages that I have been introduced to – including children! I have also gotten along with or have been indifferent to all dogs that I have met and enjoy the resident dogs in my foster home. I have shown zero aggression with people. But while I have shown no toy or bone aggression with other dogs, I have been known to growl at other dogs trying to eat out of my food bowl…but heck no one wants others stealing their food! It is best if I am just fed separately from other dogs.
I am sorry to say but I am not fully housebroken. Believe me…I try to let my people know that I need to go outside to potty but because of my bowel issues, sometimes I am just too late, and I have a small poop accident. I also sometimes have accidents when I am nervous or very excited. It is less of an issue now that my poops are at least 95% solid, but given my medical issues, poop (and even possibly pee) accidents in the home will be something I will deal with for life. Since surgery, my urinary accidents have reduced to almost zero. I am doing really well going outside to tinkle but will at times use a pee pad in the middle of the night. I will definitely need a family who is patient and understanding.
I will also require a home where someone can let me out during the day to potty. I need potty breaks every 3-4 hours to help prevent me from having accidents. I am crate trained but prefer not to be crated. I am leash trained and know “sit” and “shake” as well. I know I could learn more commands, too, if you would like.
Here are some of my loves:
- First and foremost, hanging with my people!!
- Cuddling
- Playing with people and other dogs
- Crinkly/squeaky toys
- Chewing on bones but because of my dietary restrictions, I can only have Nylabones, Benebones and antlers. I also have been known to chew on things that I am not supposed to, so I will require some supervision. Don’t worry I am easily redirected!
- Being silly (I love to wiggle, dance, and bounce around especially when someone sings to me)
I am a sweet, fun and loving gal who is just as happy as can be! All I have known in my lifetime is changes, upheaval, and inconsistencies. Despite the days when I am not feeling well, I remain happy and ready to greet my people with a wiggle and a smile on my face. I never get upset and am such a forgiving soul. My foster mom says that I deserve the absolute best home…one who will provide me with lots of patience and unconditional love!
If that is you, please apply! You won’t regret it!
