Although adverse reactions are usually minimal, diarrhea is probably the most common side effect of deworming a puppy. An upset stomach can lead to vomiting and a lack of appetite. Your puppy may also salivate excessively. Make sure he has plenty of fresh water to drink and keep an eye on him.

Medications that are commonly given to dogs are generally recognized as safe. However, a dog reaction to worming tablets is possible. Reference says that gastrointestinal symptoms are the most common side effects after deworming a dog. Gastrointestinal issues mean vomiting, diarrhea, or a general lack of appetite.

It is also normal if your dog or puppy is pooping a lot after deworming. A possible side effect of deworming a dog is diarrhea, according to Vet Info. It is not uncommon for a dog to try to spit out a dewormer pill or even throw up afterwards. Tablets may be difficult for puppies to swallow, so some medication is available as a liquid.

Many dogs infected with worms often end up getting diarrhea that doesnt go away. They may also show signs of rapid weight loss and abnormal fur color due to their bodies being denied the nutrients that they need.

Dogs sometimes eat poop out of boredom, for attention, to avoid punishment, or due to health issues. However, stool eating , also known as coprophagy, is actually quite normal behavior for a puppy. She does this both to keep the "den" clean and to protect the puppies from predators that might be drawn by the scent.

Dogs also lick because they like the taste of an owner's salty skin and out of habit. Mostly, with domestic Dogs, it's a sign of affection. Licking releases pleasurable endorphins which gives Dogs a feeling of comfort and pleasure like the feeling people get when they are biting their nails it relieves stress.

Some dewormers paralyse and kill the worms, which may be visible in your dogs faeces after the treatment has started to work. While this can be an unpleasant image, it is actually a good thing as it means the worms are no longer living inside your pet! Wormers kill and break up the worms so you are less likely to see whole worms in the faeces.
