So when you talk that squeaky baby talk to your pet, he's probably getting exactly the affectionate message you're intending. Similarly, animals including us use short, repeated vocalizations when excited .

Fan Pop Source: Fan Pop A recent study shows that talking to your dog in baby talk may actually improve the way he understands you. It can also make your dog more likely to pay attention and listen closely. According to the co-author of the study, Alex Benjamin, a Ph.D. candidate at the U.K.s University of York: Dogs, we think, are very sensitive to changes in acoustic properties ...

The results suggest
dogs do seem to prefer the canine version of baby talk
. ... Previous research has found that baby talk and dog talk are slightly differentfor example, dog talk doesn't have vowel exaggeration. This makes sense, since we don't expect dogs to learn to say vowels.

Why do dogs like it when you "baby talk" to them? I've experimented on this subject with some of the pooches I've owned in my life, and it seems like I can say the most demeaning shit to them in a high pitched voice and they start jumping and wagging their tail and licking me.

Dogs don't really understand what we say anyway, so baby talk isn't much different from us talking to them normally. It pleases us to talk baby talk to a puppy because the animal is young and we respond to it much like we would a child. Though it's importnant to remember that dogs are not humans in fur coats :D The puppy is probably more concentrating on your body language (as they can ...
