GivingTuesday: PRIDE+GROOM Giving Back to Animals in Need

At PRIDE+GROOM, we are always looking for ways to give back to animals in need and the rescue community. Since our brand launched and our products were born, we have partnered with hundreds of rescue organizations, shelters, non-profit organizations, and programs that give back.

One Fur All

PRIDE+GROOM developed THE ONE FUR ALL CONDITIONING SHAMPOO as a way of giving back to the animal welfare community with the hope that a clean, soothed, great smelling rescue has a better chance of finding a forever home. Labeled solely for shelter donation, we aim to provide THE ONE FUR ALL to shelters and rescues across the country, starting with those close to our hearts and following with recommendations from our dog loving PRIDE+GROOM community.

With GivingTuesday on the horizon, we wanted to give a well-deserved shout out to one of our favorite organizations here in New York City: Animal Haven, who we will be partnering with on this special day of giving.

What is Giving Tuesday?

GivingTuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday for the purposes of hashtag activism on social media, is celebrated and observed on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is touted as a "global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world". There are so many different ways to show generosity on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor out, making a donation, or showing up for an issue you care about, we each have something to contribute. Identify your gifts, pick a cause that gets you fired up, and give back. Each seemingly small act turns a ripple into a wave of good, transforming society and building the world we all want to live in.

There are so many ways small businesses and brands can be a part of this global day of generosity by using their platforms, talents and resources for good.  One of those ways is to raise money for an organization that you and your employees are passionate about. This GivingTuesday, that organization is Animal Haven.

Who is Animal Haven?

Animal Haven is a nonprofit animal rescue that finds homes for dogs and cats in crisis, and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve quality of life and chances of adoption. Founded in 1967, they operate an animal shelter in downtown New York City. They also provide programs that enhance the bond between animals and people, and help to keep animals in their homes whenever possible. Our Co-Founder, Jane Wagman, has sat on the board of Animal Haven for many years. She is very passionate about the work they do, and has even rescued several dogs of her own from their intakes.

Animal Haven will never euthanize an animal for space or time. Adoptable animals will stay in their care for as long as it takes to get them adopted or placed in a more suitable rescue or foster situation.

Rehabilitation & Training Program for Homeless Pets

Animal Haven is committed not only to saving the lives of homeless pets, but also enriching those lives and providing key resources to adopters to aid in healthy, happy lives with their new pets. As the proud recipients of a generous grant from the Regina B. Frankenberg Foundation, Animal Haven has implemented a comprehensive rehabilitation and behavioral training program. Overseen by a certified dog trainer, this program follows their rescued animals from the moment they enter their doors through the process of settling into their new homes.

They have made a commitment to evidence-based, positive reinforcement training and handling methods free of force, fear, pain or coercion. The most current scientific research supports humane, positive reinforcement training methods as the most effective method for modifying animal behavior from basic obedience to the most difficult cases.

Animal Haven’s Rehabilitation and Training Program includes:

  • Daily training and enrichment sessions with behavioral staff to install basic obedience behaviors, impulse control and target behavior modification such as body handling, resource guarding and socialization. Sessions are designed to address the unique needs of each animal and to help prepare them for living in a home environment.
  • Advanced volunteer training that empowers Animal Haven’s army of volunteers to advocate for the animals, teaching them force-free handling skills and interpreting body language to assist in the animals’ holistic rehabilitation experience while in their care.
  • Counseling sessions with prospective adopters to encourage matches based on both the animals’ and adopters’ unique needs and lifestyles.
  • Resources and continued support for adopters after they’ve brought home their new pet.
  • Assistance for the tri-state community at large via their Pet Behavior Hotline, which assists people in an effort to keep pets and their families together, particularly in times of need.
