Your vet can confirm a pregnancy with either a dog pregnancy test, which measures her hormone levels, from days 21-25 of her term, or by ultrasound from day 20-22. From around day 30 your vet will be able to carry out a physical examination to count how many puppies your dog is having.

✔️

Puppies under six months of age shouldn't stay in a crate for more than three or four hours at a time.

They can't control their bladders and bowels for that long.

The same goes for adult dogs being housetrained.

Physically, an older dog can hold it, but they don't know they're supposed to.

Heat usually lasts between 2-4 weeks. Early in the cycle, a female dog may not be receptive to male dogs, although some are receptive through the entire cycle. It can be shorter or longer and you'll know the cycle is over when all her vulva returns to its normal size and there's no more bleeding or discharge.

Doggy beds and pillows haven't always been around, so wild dogs had to pat down tall grass and underbrush to make a comfortable bed for themselves and their pups.

The easiest way to prepare that night's sleeping area was by walking around in a circle.

The rounding ritual may also have served as a safety precaution.

✔️

The estrus cycle has four stages.

The first stage is called proestrus.

This lasts approximately 10 days and it is during this stage that your dog will bleed from the vaginal area.

This is your dog's preparation for pregnancy phase, but she will not want to mate with a male during this time.

✔️

In the event that you want to breed your dog or prevent a pregnancy, there are noticeable signs that can alert you that your dog is in heat: First stage (proestrus).

Your dog's vulva will look swollen or larger than normal.

This is usually accompanied by a bloody vaginal discharge and she may urinate more often.

✔️
Your dog can get pregnant during the very first heat, or estrus cycle. Though most dogs experience estrus around 6 months of age, some small breeds can go into heat at four months old, so it won't be long before your little princess is able to have pups of her own!

Potty Training. Potty training is an important step in training your dog.

Training a puppy to pee outside takes 4 to 6 months on average, but it can be a lot quicker if you are very consistent about taking your puppy outside every few hours.

Some puppies can be potty trained in as little as two weeks.
