Because dogs have no fovea (or area with 100% cones), it is estimated their eye for detail is 6 times poorer than that of a human.

On the other hand, because they have so many more rods than humans, dogs can see in light five times dimmer than humans can.

Rods are the vision receptors that detect dark and light.
