Are back-clip harnesses or front-clip "no pull" harnesses better for weiner dogs? - I would recommend front clip harnesses for Dachshunds because they are known for their back problems.  2. Are step-in dog harnesses easier for wiener dogs recovering from IVDD? Not really whatever type you have is fine. I would just recommend leaving it on all the time so you don't have to put stress on the dogs back.  3. Dachshund Health UK says, "90-95% of all Dachshund disc herniations occur in the middle to lower back, not in the neck." Will dog harnesses put extra strain on these areas? No, as long as you have the proper harness the dog should be fine.  4. Is there a type of leash that is better for sausage dogs (e.g., standard, retractable, no hands, etc.)? I would recommend a bungee leash for these types of dogs. There is no jerking or pulling on them and instead it gently pulls them back.  5. Does hair type (smooth, long, or wire) impact what type of harness you should get for your wiener dog?
