Step 1: A certified therapy dog must be a friendly dog. Any mix or breed can be trained to provide comfort and affection to people in hospitals, retirement homes, schools, mental health institutions, airports, and many other settings. Dogs must be at least one year old to become a therapy dog.

If you're healthy, a few dog licks likely won't make you sick, most experts appear to agree.

At a minimum, it's advised to bathe your dog at least once every three months.

You can wash your dog as frequently as every other week (with gentle shampoo, it could be even more frequent).

When in doubt, use your judgment โ€” if your dog starts to smell, it's probably time for a bath.
