Spay (or neuter) first. Spay or neuter your dog as soon as possible. The longer a dog goes before neutering, the more difficult it will be to train them not to mark in the house. Spaying or neutering your dog should reduce urine-marking and may stop it altogether.

Do not allow the dog or dogs that scent mark to roam freely around the home. To prevent access to favorite marking spots during times when you are unable to actively supervise your dogs, confine them to a dog-proofed room or crate. Avoid competitive or vigorous play indoors, as excess activity encourages urination. If a dog is about to mark, interrupt the behavior with a vocal interrupter and immediately direct the dog to something more positive or take him outside.

Scent Marking Prevention. 1. Remove high-value resources that encourage competitive marking and do not allow the dog or dogs who scent mark to roam freely throughout the home. 2. Prevent access to favorite marking spots by restricting the dog(s) to a dog-proofed room or crate when you are unable to actively supervise them. 3.

Neuter or spay your dog. This can help eliminate or reduce urine marking in most dogs. When a dog has been neutered or spayed, about 50% to 60% of dogs stop their urine marking or have at least; Clean areas and objects that have been marked using an enzymatic cleaner which removes pet odors and stains. This helps remove your dogs scent and prevent him to remark the area or object.

How to stop unwanted scent marking. Neutering can help stop scent marking. However, if the habit is already practiced it may still continue and be harder to stop. Walking the dog in different places gives him lots of chances to spread his scent around therefore he may be less inclined to do it in the home. Remove anything which has become a marking spot in the home. Keep the dog in an area away from temptation if you cannot be there to supervise.

We focus on enzymatic cleaners as these are more heavy-duty and can work on the scent better. Neuter your dog before it reaches the 12-15 month age mark, this will cause your dog to stop marking the areas out of hormonal influence. As many as 60% of the dogs stop or significantly reduce marking when you spray or neuter them.

For pet dogs, early neutering will stop marking behavior in the majority of dogs. Neutering at an early age can prevent the habit forming. For older dogs, neutering may still have the desired effect but marking in the house may have become a habit that you will have to break. Try the supervision method below.

Measure out one and a half cups of water and two tablespoons of distilled white vinegar. The water will help dilute the spray and the vinegar will enhance the strong deterrent scent [ 3] to prevent your dog from peeing in the house or on your furniture. Pour both into a bowl and mix well. Step 3: Add the Essential Oil
