The difference between cur and mutt. is that cur is (archaic) a mongrel or inferior dog while mutt is a mongrel dog; a dog of mixed breed or uncertain origin. In most American usage mutt and cur mean the same thing, a mongrel, mixed-breed, or dog of unknowable ancestry.

In most American usage mutt and cur mean the same thing, a mongrel, mixed-breed, or dog of unknowable ancestry. Though depending on the region, mutt may be perceived as a friendly dog and cur as a mean dog, or in some areas, cur could mean an off-bred dog that performs like a trained high-bred animal.
