The Chippiparai is easy to groom and maintain with their short sleek coat that rarely seems to shed. Therefore, they are a very low maintenance dog that never requires professional grooming. A regular weekly brushing is all that is needed and perhaps an occasional bath, using a mild dog shampoo, will suffice.

They are a little bit more sensitive than other dog breeds. Kannis don't like an irregular daily routine, noisy household and frequent guest visits.

This breed generally not used as a therapy dog. A therapy dog is a dog that might be trained to provide affection, comfort, and love to people in hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, schools, hospices, disaster areas, and to people with anxiety disorders or autism. Chippiparai is not the best breed for therapeutic purposes.

A high-quality nutritious diet will be a good option for a Chippiparai to keep it healthy and fit. It has a lean body and should remain like that only, hence, overfeeding should be strictly avoided and also the average calorie consumption by this breed on a daily basis should be properly monitored and controlled.

The Chippiparai (sometimes called the Tamil Greyhound, and nicknamed the "Chippi" for short) is a tall, thin, medium-sized breed native to India. These dogs, which are extremely rare, are sighthounds blessed with great speed, and are similar in build to the Saluki (the breed from which they're descended); they're also independent and aloof in temperament.

Chippiparai can adapt to any kind of living environment, whether an apartment or a house. However, the ideal living space for this breed would be a house with a large, fenced-in yard. Make sure the fences are tall though; this agile dog can jump right over a six or seven foot fence!

Because of their high energy, they are not a good choice for an apartment. Without enough space and exercise, the Chippiparai can become destructive, nervous or hyperactive.
