Vitamin D3 is an essential vitamin in people, dogs, and cats.

Cholecalciferol rodenticides have a narrower margin of safety than most anticoagulant rodenticides and only a small amount is needed to cause poisoning in cats and dogs.

Unfortunately, clinical signs of poisoning may not be seen for 1-2 days after exposure.
