Any Yorkshire Terrier full grown that is smaller than this would be considered too small, and find themselves with an increased risk of size-related health issues. These very tiny Yorkies are known as teacup Yorkies. It is not uncommon, however, to find Yorkshire Terriers growing to weigh around 8 to 10 pounds (3.62 to 4.53 kg). This comes down to bone structure and whether the pup is overweight. A large Yorkie can also be the result of an incorrect pairing of dam and sire that were ...

The Yorkshire Terrier (often shortened as Yorkie) is one of the smallest dog breeds of the terrier type, and of any dog breed. The breed developed during the 19th century in Yorkshire, England. Ideally its maximum size is 7 pounds (3.2 kg). A popular companion dog, the Yorkshire Terrier has also been part of the development of other breeds, such as the Silky Terrier. Most have a black and tan coat, but they are also known to have a silverish-grey or a blonde coat. Yorkshire Terriers are very ...

The Yorkshire Terrier like the most other Terrier breeds originated in England. It is believed that their ancestors came to England in the mid-19th century from Scotland. These dogs were brought by the miners and weavers who came to Yorkshire. A Yorkies primary job was to catch rats in the mills. The breed was developed by crossing the now-extinct breeds of Clydesdale and Paisley Terriers with the Skye and Airedale Terriers. Today, Yorkies no longer hunt rats for a living; instead the ...

Yorkshire Terriers are categorized under toy group because of their small stature and extremely compact built. Yorkies are adored for their cute size, beautiful coat, and bold personality. Yorkshire Terrier dogs are generally playful and affectionate towards the family members but are rather reserved with other canines, strangers et cetera. Training a Yorkshire Terrier puppy is a lot more easy and effortless than training a grown-up Yorkie. Learn more about Yorkshire Terriers dogs including ...

There is minimal shedding with Yorkshire Terriers. Because the coat of a Yorkshire Terrier is closer to human hair than standard dog fur, the amount of shedding that occurs is minimal. That means there is little dander produced that leaks into the environment, so sneezing and cleaning are less of a problem with this breed than others. You can sheer the coat close to avoid frequent brushing to create a further advantage in this area. The only real issue to look for if you prefer the longer ...
