You share more than a chosen dog breed but an unspoken respect and shared compassion for your long-legged, donkey of a dog.

We know miniature dogs are part of the hybrid dog craze right now and they are often extremely cute, however, there is no such thing as a Miniature Lurcher. However, choosing a small sight-hound breed such as a Whippet and also choosing a smaller parent such as a terrier will produce a small Lurcher (in comparison to many other types).

When training outside you will be using a long lead and this will allow your dog to run at speed before the lead pulls tight and stops her. If we used an ordinary collar there is a possibility of yanking back your dogs head which is very dangerous. Lurcher an Greyhounds have very slim and quite delicate necks. Clicker or Whistle

Lurcher Basics. The Lurcher is a particularly unique breed of dog because its appearance can be greatly varied depending on breeding. Technically, a Lurcher is a cross between a sighthound and any non-sighthound breed, but it often takes the appearance of a Greyhound or Saluki.

Unfortunately, they are the most common dog in all of Ireland to find in homeless dog shelters and pounds searching for homes. A lurcher is anything crossed with a greyhound, they are sight hounds which were originally found in the desert and were kept for their keen eyesight and ability to eye up prey from great distances.

Put simply, a lurcher is a cross between: i) a dog which runs too fast for you and chases everything (a sighthound), and ii) a dog which runs slightly more slowly but still chases everything (a working dog). A longdog is a cross between two sighthounds, which means you dont have a chance.

Fallen in love with a rescue dog, hes a Lurcher (looks like greyhound x saluki), it says that hes ok with cats but Im a little worried. I have a very friendly cat who was brought up around my old staffie so hes quite dog savvy but I worry as sight hounds tend to have natural instinct to chase small furries.

A Lurcher is not a breed of dog but is a type of hound that results from cross breeding a Sighthound with another type of working dog such as a Collie or Terrier. The Lurcher is unique to Ireland and Britain and has been with us a very long time. The development of the Lurcher as a type of hound is thought to originate from the time when only ...

A lurcher is not actually a breed of dog; a lurcher is a type of hound that results from cross-breeding a sighthound with another type of working dog, such as a collie or terrier. Historically a lurcher is a poachers dog, but in modern times lurchers are regarded as pets, hunting dogs as well as racing dogs.
