Adult Pug Black Health Issues Unfortunately, with their dark coat, they will suffer from several issues and will not be able to tolerate the heat very well, especially, as they age. We used and love the Rover Portable Dog Bowl because its lightweight and will keep your Pug cool and hydrated.

The black Pug is an indoor dwelling dog that needs to be in optimum temperatures. Due to the short snout and nasal passages, too hot of temperatures will cause your dog to overheat and have trouble breathing. They are also prone to hypothermia and cannot regulate their body temperatures to keep them warm enough.

These pugs do not have any additional health problems however, the presence of the merle gene does increase the chances of pugs developing the health conditions usually associated with them. The pug breed alone has some significant health conditions that should be taken into consideration.

Pugs are prone to health problems, but not all of them will suffer from this condition. If youre looking to get a Pug as a family pet, make sure you do your due diligence. Shop from reputable breeders, or consider rescuing an older Pug. That said, older Pugs can have breathing problems that are more pronounced than younger ones.

Like all pure bred dogs, pugs have some health issues that may crop up and they are often expensive health issues.

Pugs are prone to issues specific to brachycephalic (flat faced) breeds (breathing, eyes, folds of skin) and are prone to issues of the toy breeds generally (luxating patella, dental problems, trachea).
