How long do they live? Greyhounds are usually 2-5 years old when they are retired, though sometimes we have older dogs available for adoption. The typical life expectancy of a greyhound is 12-14 years. How big do greyhounds get? Male greyhounds generally stand 26 to 34 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 65 and 85 pounds.

Yes, they have a short light coat. Yes, they are easy to groom and maintain. But they are dogs and like every other breed that has fur they do shed. They shed lightly, but they do shed. Get used to it or get a stuffed toy. If you don't think you can become accustomed to thinking of dog hair as a condiment, don't get a real animal. 2.

Greyhounds with BTS have a history of normal hair distribution when first brought into work at the track, but, about 4 weeks after entering a full training program, there is a progressive loss of hair at the back and side of each thigh with increased discoloration of the skin (hyper-pigmentation).

It presents as a dry, coarse, or fluffy coat; but it actually consists of loose hair and dander, which has built up amongst new growth. It is often lighter in color than the rest of the dogs coat. Greyhounds have two seasonal shedding periods a year. They can have additional sheds, if they are under stress, or have been sick or injured.

The greyhound ends up with bald patches. On closer inspection, you may see blackheads or whiteheads. Meulman further comments that most greyhounds will grow back the hair, once theyre homed out to a more relaxed life. If a greyhound comes from a long line of baldies, however, that hair may be gone for good.

It started on her thighs as seems to be common with greyhounds, then spread to her belly. The kennels i took her from assure me this is normal molting so i didnt worry too much, now she has virtually no hair at all on her belly, chest and a large bald spot on her throat.

Their short, sleek coat has more oil and less dander than other dogs, which means they are less likely to trigger allergies. No.
