Try to only leave your dog for four hours at a time in the days after her surgery. During the first three to four days after her surgery, you can leave your dog alone for four hours at a time. These four hours will allow her time to sleep and rest, but will also help you to be around enough that you can spot problems she may have.

Dogs are given an injection that relieves them from any pain during the surgery. The effects of the injection last around 8 to 12 hours. As for cases that involve a scrotal castration, small amounts of discharge or drainage may usually manifest for at least three days after the surgery. For newly neutered males, apply an ice pack draped in a clean cloth to the scrotal part. Keep this practice two times a day for ten to fifteen minutes.

Animals, like humans, may experience some pain post-surgery. The level of pain depends on your dog. Some dogs bounce back to normal behavior within a few hours of surgery, while others may moan and show signs of agitation for up to a few days afterward. If you dog tries to bite the incision, this is another symptom of pain.

Feeling sick after having shots is relatively common for dogs. Sometimes the side-effects of shots can last for a day or two, although some dogs may recover more quickly. Following its shots, a dog may display symptoms and signs such as vomiting , diarrhea, loss of appetite, low mood, high temperature, and a mild cough.

A dog throwing up a week after being spayed, however, could indicate a more serious medical issue, like a bacterial infection, either internally, as a result of the surgery, or at the site of the incision.
