How long after eating does a dog poop? Food tends to take between 6 and 8 hours to pass through a dogs digestive system. That means dogs needs around 7 hours after eating for a poop. However, with puppies that time is much less, potentially 4 hours. So, yes, whilst dogs do poop after every meal, it might be hours before they do.

Wait for 10 or 15 minutes, then go out for a walk. Your dog or younger dog should defecate within the next 15 minutes, so wait patiently. Most dogs will need to go out two or three times a day. Just because your dog goes out twice, it does not mean that you need to take it out after a meal only.

After the meal, only wait between 5 and 30 minutes to take your puppy outside. The younger the puppy, the sooner they should be brought out after a meal to potty. As the puppy grows older, they will gain bladder control and learn to hold it longer each day.

The moment your dogs belly is full theres a signal sent to the colon. In the next 20-30 minutes after finishing the meal, the dog will poop. However, its not limited to once a day. Its perfectly normal for a dog to poop thrice a day. However, its very important to know that not every dog is similar.

One thing to keep in mind is that just like humans, every dog is an individual, and not all dogs poop the same. Generally, you should expect your a puppy to poop once in the morning, after each meal (2 to 3 times per day), and once before bedtime, so up to five times per day.

Under normal circumstances, a dog can hold his poop for a maximum of 24 to 48 hours. Every dog is different and thus they have their own schedule and frequency of pooping. Your pup will need to relieve himself more frequently than your adult dog. Both of them are fine as long as they have healthy dog poop.
