Joined: Jun 15, 2013. Messages: 20,186. I think lead walking in moderation - I'd say no more than 100 - 200m of learning how to walk on a lead is appropriate for a 12 week old puppy. Apart from that, I'd say exploring off lead at his own pace in very gentle ground is ok and doesn't really need to be restricted.

Senses 12-week-old puppies will show fear, pain and excitement. They can see and hear fairly well. They are learning to differentiate between smells. Ability to Hold Urine 12-week-old puppies can generally hold their urine for about 4 hours. This means you will need to take them out at least every 4 hours to get them housebroken.

The Kennel Club a U.K.-based organization recommends providing growing puppies with 5 minutes of activity-time for every month of your pups age. In other words, a 2-month-old puppy should be walked for about 10 minutes at a time, whereas a 10-month-old puppy can remain active for about 50 minutes, including some high-intensity activity.

At 12 weeks, your pup should get the DHPP vaccine. This pawsome shot includes distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Your pupper can also get their rabies vaccine any time past 12 weeks. You may as well save yourself a trip to the clinic and get them both at the same time. Your little dog will still have their fluffy puppy coat ...

Generally, your puppy should be able to handle a short, 30-min hike once he's 12 weeks old or so. Even 45 minutes to an hour is great for older puppies. Each puppy is different, though! It's also a good idea to check with your vet about what vaccinations are a good idea in your area before taking your puppy on trails.

If youre wondering how much exercise should my puppy get, a general rule of thumb is to take your puppys age in months and then multiply it by five to work out how many minutes your puppy can walk for each session. ? This is based on an average of two walks per day.

A general guide for exercising puppies is to allow them one to two sessions of five minutes walking for each month of age, so for example, a four month old pup could enjoy walks of 20 minutes at a time, once or twice a day.

Some breeders suggest 5 minutes of exercise per month of age so a maximum 15 minute walk outside for a 12 week old puppy. This timeframe doesnt include time spent playing and running around in the house. Overexercising your puppy can cause problems with your dogs joints as they grow.

When training a basic cue, keep the sessions short, about 5 minutes each, and try to average a total of 15 minutes per day. Puppies have short attention spans, so end your session on a positive note so that they are excited for the next session! Use Consistency When Training Your Puppy
