Wrap the tape past both ends of the FPI and onto the tail directly. This will secure it to the tail and (hopefully) not let it fall off. Putting tape at the tip helps hold it, as does putting a little extra at the top. I know some people may think I'm horrible for suggesting putting tape on a dog's tail, but trust me it's fine.

First Aid: How to Treat a Dog's Bleeding Tail First, we cleaned the wound with warm water and gentle soap (wound cleanser works too). We let the tip of the tail air-dry for a minute, then used an antibacterial spray and applied Bag Balm after that. Whatever you use, make sure it's veterinarian-approved.

You can try holding an ice cube on the tip of the tail to reduce/stop the bleeding. A pressure bandage is good but see if you can find some type of tape rather then the rubber band. Tape around the tail tight enough to apply pressure but not tight enough to completely reduce blood flow.

Treating Dog Tail Injury

The simplest and most effective technique is to dip the tail in a pan of cold water for several minutes. That rinses off the wound, helps stop the bleeding and reduces inflammation. Then gently pat the tail dry with a clean cloth.

Most dogs simply chew them off, and Elizabethan collars arent large enough to prevent the tongue from reaching the tip of the tail. Besides, even if the tail tip does heal, the dog is likely to re-whack it and the bleeding will start all over again. Behavioral therapy to stop the wagging.

If fleas or ticks are causing your dog to bite their tail, the best way to get them to stop is to treat them with medicated shampoos and other products that remove the ticks or fleas. Other Allergic Reactions
