Do not give your dog a bath for 72 hours before or after application. Wash all bedding used by pets, your blankets if they go on the bed, and vacuum everything to try and reduce fleas in the environment. Throw out the bag or clean vacuum canister and take the trash out adterwards. Fleas have a 21 day life cycle.

No matter how safe or mild the flea shampoo is, you should still wear protective clothing, and gloves at all times while using a flea shampoo to bathe your dog. If you manually pick up fleas during bathing, drown the pests in a bowl of hot, soapy water.

It's relatively easy to give your dog a flea bath. In fact, it's much like giving your dog a regular bath. If using a tub or basin, place your dog inside it. It's usually helpful to leash your dog to something so he cannot run away.

Find a well-ventilated area. Anytime you give your dog a flea bath, especially if you're using a shampoo with pyrethrins, you should find a well-ventilated area. If possible, give your dog a flea bath in a pool outside. If not, keep windows and doors open during the bath.

Flea baths. Your vet might recommend a flea bath for puppies under the age of 6 weeks if the animal is heavily infested. After using the appropriate flea shampoo in a warm water bath, thoroughly towel dry the puppy. If necessary, use a hair dryer not on the hot setting to dry him.

A flea bath refers to a thorough bath with a flea shampoo. These flea shampoos are designed to remove all the fleas that are in your dogs coat. However, they usually wont repel fleas completely. So, you should also be giving your dog a flea and tick preventative to keep them safe at all times.

You should not put flea medicine treatment on a dog right after a bath. Topical spot-on flea treatments are dispersed through the dogs coat by their natural oils. A bath and shampooing can strip a dogs coat of natural oils; the flea medicine will pool up by the dogs neck and not be as effective.

1. Give Your Pet a Bath. Just lukewarm water, or water and a mild soap, can help get fleas off your pet's fur and skin. If you're thinking about using a flea shampoo or something similar, talk to your veterinarian first.

Flea bath Or, give your dog a medicated flea bath or dip immediately after initial bathing. It may be advised to dry your dog first, as moisture already present on the skin can dilute medicated shampoo and render it less effective.
