When to Neuter a German Shepherd Male. German Shepherd males can be neutered as early as eight weeks with the common practice being around 6 months old. For most, the decision to neuter at around 6 months is because this is typically the time they reach sexual maturity. Theyre able to reproduce and hormonal changes begin to occur.

A pup who is neutered by 6 months of age is unlikely to be affected in any significant way in terms of growth/development.
