The Norwegian Buhund originally herded animals and guarded farms in Norway, so he is observant, hard-working, and independent. He is also sweet, cheerful, and very smart, and he is an affectionate family companion. The Norwegian Buhund can live in an apartment, but he needs at least one or two 20-30 minute walks or play sessions on a daily basis.

People who live active lifestyles, or are seeking a dog with which they can become involved in dog sports, will appreciate the personality of the Norwegian Buhund. It is also an ideal dog for people who are athletic and desire a dog to go running, hiking or biking with.

The Norwegian Buhund would do best living in a house with at least a small fenced-in yard. These dogs are very active and should get plenty of chances to exercise. They can, however, live in an apartment if extra care is given for sufficient exercise and the apartment is fairly big for the dog to move around. Exercise.

The Norwegian Lundehund is a small dog breed of the Spitz type originating on the islands of Norway and referenced as far back as the 1500s. Nicknamed the puffin dog, they were used to wrestle and retrieve live puffins from the crevices of steep cliffs.

It can be very enjoyable to live with a Norwegian Buhund. They make great companions for active owners. These dogs are generally friendly with other dogs and humans. Although the Buhund is not the most hyperactive breed, they can be rambunctious especially when bored.

Norwegian Buhund Care. The Norwegian Buhunds natural, easy-care coat is sheds moderately. The coat naturally repels dirt, so it stays clean and relatively odorless, making the breed a wonderful house pet. The Norwegian Buhunds coat requires no trimming, but thorough brushing several times a week helps cut down on shedding.
