All dogs need grooming, but you'd be forgiven at first glance for thinking it's minimal with a Lab. After all, Labradors have a wonderfully easy looking coat. But Labradors shed like crazy, and to keep them comfortable and your home relatively fur free you will need to give them a quick brush down at least once a week.

Why do labs stink?

You dog uses these glands to leave his scent around for other dogs. This scent is also the reason why dogs sniff each other's bottoms when they meet and greet. These anal glands can become overfull and even clogged – and smelly. Together with build-up of the secretion, clogging can also cause infection.

DO Labs sleep alot?

Adult Labradors will sleep for well over half of every 24 hours, and puppies under four months old may sleep as much as 20 hours a day. The reason for all this sleeping may have to do with a special type of sleep called rapid eye movement, or REM, sleep during which dreaming takes place.

Do English labs shed?

The Labrador Retriever is a heavily shedding breed. Some Labs may shed slightly more or less than others, but we do not know of any correlation between coat color and a major difference in shedding.
