Start by putting your dog on the tether a few times a day for five to ten minutes. Give him a reward as soon as he gets to the tethering place, then give him a special treat – like a food stuffed Kong (see our handout “Dog Toys and How to Use Them), while you settle down nearby to watch TV, read, etc.

How long should I exercise my puppy?

A good rule of thumb is a ratio of five minutes exercise per month of age (up to twice a day) until the puppy is fully grown, i.e. 15 minutes (up to twice a day) when three months old, 20 minutes when four months old etc. Once they are fully grown, they can go out for much longer.

Should my dog sleep outside?

If your dog is sleeping outside, it is essential it has a good quality kennel to allow it to hide away from the weather. A kennel should shelter your dog from harsh wind, rain and the cold. Dogs require this protection so that heat is not drawn away from their body. The kennel must be sturdy and durable.

Where should my bunny sleep?

Rabbits spend a lot of time sleeping, mostly during the day. The perfect sleeping area for rabbits is a place which approximates a burrow i.e. a roof over their heads and an entrance and exit route. Therefore, house rabbits tend to like sleeping behind sofas or under tables or beds.
