What is the FNZ Standard Certificate?

The Future Net Zero (FNZ) Standard certificate enables SMEs to track where they are, examine their progress and measure themselves against their industry. When a company is certified it means that they have provided a validated carbon footprint in accordance with the future Net Zero Standard official approval.

Each certificate has four levels, beginning with a preliminary certification and then progressing through to bronze, silver, and gold standards. As soon as a business is certified they can then officially publicise their Net Zero eco achievements. At Country Boarding for Cats and Dogs, we have been certified at having proven a validated carbon footprint according to the future Net Zero standard accreditation.

A Summary of our Progress Report to Net Zero Carbon Use

As part of our Net Zero commitment, our business will have its carbon footprint officially measured and the data collated within a yearly Net Zero report. As a business, this helps us keep track of our eco goals and to measure our carbon footprint each year. Below is a summary of the findings taken from our report.

Carbon Emissions Overview – last 12 months

• Scope 1 – Direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by our business.
• Scope 2 – Indirect emissions from acquired energy such as steam, heat, and cooling.
• Scope 3 – All other emissions connected with our business’s endeavours.

The calculated emissions for our business in 2022 were 36.2 t CO2e (tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent). We have seen a slight increase in carbon emissions compared to the previous benchmark year of 2021, due to normal business activities resuming after covid-19 with increased business travel and more pets being cared for. While our total CO2e emissions increased by 23% in comparison to our benchmark year, our business activity increased relatively by 60%. This indicates we are being successful in working towards meeting our targets.

Carbon Emissions Report

• Scope 1 Our gas usage has been computed using information supplied by the providers. Gas is measured at 1.6 t CO2e. This is in comparison to 11.3 t CO2e in the benchmark year and signifies a decrease of 9.1 t CO2e – a reduction of gas usage from c. 300 litres per month to 117 litres per month.

• Scope 2 Our electricity information has been evaluated via the energy provider data, which has been available for the full year on a month-by-month basis. Our electricity is measured at 6.2 t CO2e. This shows an increase of 0.2 t CO2e in comparison to our benchmark year and was anticipated because of our business returning to normal practices after covid. The graph also clearly demonstrates the dramatic effect of our 31 kW pv generating panels which reduce need to use grid power during summer months.

• Scope 3 Our business travel data have been measured using mileage data taken from our company vans and cars, whilst staff commuting was measured from data collated from their home address and number of days travel per month. Water supply data is sourced from our monthly water supply bills while waste water is treated and disposed of on site.
• Waste disposal has been measured using predictions based on weight and type of waste collected each week. Scope 3 total is calculated at 28.4 t CO2e, this compares to 12.1 t CO2e in the benchmark year.

This January, many dog walkers are tracking their daily step count with their four-legged friends via their smartphones! The next time you are on a dog walk at your local secure dog park, use your phone as a pedometer to automatically record your steps and any calories burned.

Most people burn on average, around four calories per step. Although this may sound like a small number, if you are on a long dog walk and complete five thousand steps, that can equate to around two hundred calories burned, or in food terms, half a cheeseburger! By recording your daily steps, calories burned, and distances covered on your dog walks, you can easily monitor your progress which can help you to better plan your overall fitness goals for 2023.

2. Walking Steadiness

Did you know that your smartphone can detect if you are at a higher risk of falling when on a dog walk?  If you own an iPhone, you can monitor your balance, stability, and coordination through the in-built motion sensors. This January, when you walk your dog, use your iPhone to measure mobility metrics, which can include your walking speed, step length, double support time, and walking irregularity. Once these metrics are recorded, the health feature within your iPhone can establish your walking steadiness level. An individual’s walking steadiness can be classified as either, ‘OK’, ‘Low’, or ‘Very Low.’ If you are worried about your overall mobility, then you can also choose to receive a notification to alert you in real-time if your steadiness drops to being classified as either, ‘Low’ or ‘Very Low.’

How to Activate Walking Steadiness on Your iPhone

1. Within your iPhone, click on the Health app.
2. Open the Browse tab, then search for Mobility.
3. If this is the first time you have used the feature, scroll down until you come to Walking Steadiness Notifications, next click Set Up.
4. Press Next, then input your health information within the Health Details section and click on Next.
5.  Turn On notifications to receive alerts when your Steadiness is Low or Very Low.
6. Finally click Done.

If you belong to a dog walking or fitness App group, then you can share your walking steadiness data and notifications with friends and family. Just ensure you have health sharing enabled within the settings section of your iPhone.

Using mobile apps on dog walks can help you better monitor your health and fitness levels, including those of our pets. Although a lot of the technology is free within most smart phones, external apps can provide additional fitness features and therefore provide an even clearer analysis of your health and fitness levels. The information will then be available for you to access when you happen to be offline and unable to connect to the Internet.

5. Tractive GPS Dog and Cat Tracker

To kickstart January, many dog walkers will be visiting open fields and secure dog parks to help start the New Year in a healthy way. Nevertheless, if you happen to take your dog off their lead on a walk at a large field or open woodland, then there is always a slight worry that they can become lost and run away. It's vacation time again! We will be closed the week of January 9th and will re-open that Friday at 3pm. Brittany will be here to greet everyone being dropped off so I can continue my time off!

Prices Prices will be changing on Feb 1. Overnight boarding and some add on services will see a slight increase and the price for multiple dogs from the same house has decreased!

So much enrichment! We just got a lot of new chew toys for the pups! They've been having a blast! Dogs enjoy "new" toys (or toys they haven't seen in a while and forgot about!) so we're rotating the toys so they get different things to play with during their stay. We also have more puzzle feeders to keep the pups entertained! When it's too cold to play outside we have plenty of mental games to keep us entertained inside!

A great way of burning off the Christmas calories is to spend New Year’s Day on a long dog walk. A great place to start, is to visit dog walking parks or fields with your four-legged friend. There are many health benefits associated with dog walks, such as an improvement on you and your pet’s cardiovascular fitness levels, lowering blood pressure, whilst also increasing muscle strength and bone density. A New Year’s Day dog walk is also a fantastic way of increasing the bond between the two of you and starting January doing something positive, fun, and healthy together.

2. Fun Games

Physical and mental stimulation are so important for your cat or dog’s overall development. A great way of kickstarting the New Year, is by taking part in a selection of fun mentally stimulating activities with your pet.

Many owners introduce food rewards to aid mental stimulation when playing with their pets. If you have a cat or dog, then by including healthy snacks as food rewards when training or playing games together, it will help to develop their cognitive development whilst also helping to exercise their natural hunting instincts.

3. Dog Training Events

Dogs have very sensitive ears and can hear sounds at much higher frequencies than their owners. With our pets being more sensitive to sound, this means that that the New Year’s Eve fireworks season can cause many dogs a lot of fear, anxiety, and distress. Fireworks are incredibly loud and can generate a sound output of up to 150 to 175 decibel range, which can cause damage to our pet’s ears. The World Health Organisation advises that humans should not be subjected to a sound output of 140 decibel range, without wearing hearing protection, with physical pain starting at around 125 db. But how can I walk my dog during the fireworks season? At Country Boarding for Cats and Dogs, we have answered this question, by listing three dog walking safety tips for you to follow during the fireworks period.

1. Earlier Dog Walks

Try and avoid evening dog walks. Consider walking your dog at a secure dog park, or local field during the daytime before the fireworks begin later on. Many owners walk their dogs during the daylight hours as there will be less risk of loud bangs going off compared to the evening time where fireworks celebrations are more frequent. Noisy bangs and sudden flashes produced by fireworks can frighten dogs on an evening dog walk, ultimately putting their safety at risk. Even if your dog does not usually display any signs of anxiety or distress around fireworks, they can easily become frightened by sudden loud noises and visual displays while out on a dog walk. This December leading up to New Year’s Eve, ensure your dog walk is as calm and enjoyable as possible for your canine companion by reducing their exposure to any firework displays that happen at night.

2. Microchip your Dog

Is your dog microchipped? Since April 2016, the UK Government has now made microchipping dogs a legal requirement.  A microchip is an efficient method of identification. If your dog’s personal details within its microchip records are kept up to date, then you can easily be contacted if your pet goes missing. During the firework season, loud bangs can easily frighten dogs and increase the chances of them running away whilst on a dog walk. However, if your dog is microchipped and goes missing on a walk while fireworks are going off, then the chances of you being contacted are increased, especially if their chip holds your updated personal information, such as a current home address or contact telephone number. If you have not done so already, speak with your local qualified Vet to arrange for your pet to be microchipped as soon as possible.

3. T.L.C.

This firework season, comfort your dog before, during and after their walk. As already discussed within this article, the loud noises from the fireworks celebrations can easily makes your dog anxious and distressed, and so providing them with lots of TLC in a calm and positive way, during this period, will help communicate to them that they are safe and secure. Before and after you take your dog out on a walk, spend some time stroking and grooming them and giving them lots of loving praise. Grooming and stroking your dog, can help reduce their heart rate and encourages the flow of oxytocin into their bloodstream– the identical hormone that is produced when a mother feels her new-born.

Similarly, pet-friendly dog treats are also a great distraction on a walk, if any loud fireworks happen to go off and startle them; so, consider investing in nutritious dog snacks to use for positive reinforcement. Select a dog treat that your canine companion enjoys and will eat as anxiety and stress can decrease their appetite.

Managing your Reservation Portal

When you create your profile you'll need to fill in all of the missing information! We will need an emergency contact that is not yourself (please put in name and phone number) in addition to your contact information.

Then, you can add your pup! Or add a new pup if you already have an account with us but have added to your family! You can also update your personal information or emergency contact information from the dashboard at any time! Please let us know how much your pup eats, if they're allowed to have treats, and if they take any medications. If they do NOT take medication, you can leave those boxes empty.

You can do so much from your reservation portal, so let's check out the different options!

Creating a new reservation

After you click the orange "Make a new reservation" button on the main dashboard, you can click on boarding, pick your pets, dates, add on services, and you can add special notes. Notes can be anything about your dogs behavior, medical issues, what time you want to drop off or pick up, or anything at all that you want to tell us. **2022 Update: Our daycare is booked to capacity so you will not see that as an option.

Editing your reservation

Do you need to change a day? Or remove a dog from the reservation? Maybe you want to add a note? Click the "View details" button on the reservation that you want to modify. That will open the reservation and you can change the dates, add or remove pets from this reservation, edit the pets information, change the package, add services, or add notes.

Cancel your reservation

If something has come up and you need to cancel, you can do that from the dashboard! Next to the reservation number there is a link that says "cancel this reservation." Click it, and it will send a cancellation notice and cancel the reservation.

Upload documents (vaccination records)

If you need to upload vaccination records you can do that from the main page of your reservation dashboard! Next to the "Make a new reservation" button, there is a box that says "More actions" with an arrow. Click on that arrow and you can then click on "Your documents" and upload documents into your pets portal. Please be patient, we have to go in and physically confirm the vaccinations have been uploaded, and then we have to enter the vaccination dates into the pets profile. This wont happen immediately since a human has to actually log in and do the work, but we log in to check email daily, so it will be done fairly soon after they're uploaded.

Paying for your reservation

We usually send out invoices about 1-2 weeks before a stay is scheduled to begin. This changes if the dates that you've booked have reached capacity. Once we are booked, we require everyone to confirm their reservation. You will receive an email with the invoice in it. The email may look like this...

When you click "review and pay" you will be taken to this screen, where you can look at the invoice and download or print it off, as well as decide how to pay.

Accepting the Pet Services Contract

If you are a new client, you will need to accept the pet services contract before we can confirm your pups stay. I can't make you read it, but I highly encourage it. Periodically, we will be updating the pet services contract and all customers will need to accept the most recent version. You are responsible for knowing the content of the pet services contract. If you are not prompted to accept the pet services contract, you can find it under the "More Actions" button as well.

This recipe is so simple, even your dog could do it! To start, grind 3 cups of oats in a food processor and set them aside. Then, use your food processer to grind up apples until they look like applesauce. Combine the oats, apples, cinnamon, flaxseed and honey in a large mixing bowl until you reach a doughy consistency. Spread out the dough and use a cookie cutter of your choice to make the biscuits. Once you’ve carefully placed all the biscuits on a cookie sheet, bake at 350º for 15 minutes. Let the biscuits cool and allow your furry friend to enjoy!

Pumpkin and Peanut Butter Bites

• 1 cup of canned pumpkin
• ½ cup of xylitol-free peanut butter (this is very important)
• 2 cups of all-purpose flour (or a dog safe flour substitute)

Recipe:

Start by preheating your oven to 375º. While the oven heats up, mix the pumpkin and peanut butter together in a medium mixing bowl. Then, slowly mix in the flour. After reaching a dough-like consistency, roll the dough flat and use a cookie cutter of your choice to cut out shapes. Bake for 12 minutes, let cool and watch your pup enjoy this sweet treat!

Sweet Potato and Carrot ‘Jerky’

• Sweet potatoes
• Carrots

Recipe: 

While this recipe does not require a lot of ingredients or work, it does require a bit of patience! Thinly slice your sweet potatoes and carrots and place them on a cookie sheet. You're likely wondering what you need to bring with you when you drop off your pet. It is always a good idea to bring some of your dogs favorite toys so that they can have them to play with while they are being boarded. Yogurt Can Be Great for Upset Stomachs

Plain yogurt can be a healthy treat for your pup! The probiotics in the organisms in the yogurt may also help keep the bacteria in your dog’s intestines in balance. Probiotic supplements for dogs are widely available through veterinarians and over-the-counter. Use remedies from reputable companies that have the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) seal on the label to make sure that you are purchasing a safe and effective product.

Oatmeal for Itchy Skin

An old remedy for itchy skin is oatmeal baths. This is because oatmeal contains compounds called avenanthramides and phenols, which have anti-inflammatory properties. Pets with skin allergies and superficial infections get immediate relief from oatmeal. We are starting these petting sessions as by pure chance a recent customer collected her dog. She was with her mum who suffers with dementia. We had a dog here in our field which was the same breed as her dog as a child. The memory came back and to her daughters amazement she called the dog "Berry" which was the name of her dog. We are offering 1 hour petting sessions where you will get to spend time playing with the dogs here. You can feed, walk, wash, brush or just sit and play with them. We don't know how this is going to go but it could end up with us offering this to small groups for schools and nursing homes. But to start we are doing it for just two people at a time.

Due to Covid-19, 54% of kennels have closed, which has meant our growth over the last 23 Months has been immense. We are one of the lucky ones who survived the pandemic and have come out the other side in a strong position. We are employing more people and always looking for part time staff.

In ten years we have had one price increase and this was for VAT reasons. We have done everything in our power not to increase prices. But due to energy prices being so high and running costs increasing we have had to do it. For the last 2 years we have tried to keep going at the same prices but now we have no choice than to put a small price increase in place for 2023.

With other kennels everything is extra. We pride ourselves on not charging extra for anything, Our dogs get a maximum of 6 walks a day and they get a night time walk. Kennels are cleaned again, waters are changed. free food, treats, air conditioning , heating in winter months, free facebook service of daily photos and videos, tablets, administration...the list goes on.

The Paralysis tick naturally occurs along the east coast of Australia with its southernmost limit being East Gippsland. But with increasing humidity and rising temperatures, from season to season, this range is expanding. Furthermore, with the removal of border restrictions between states, there is an increased potential for dogs to pick up ticks when being taken to other states.
 
There are 3 main dog ticks in Victoria:

• Brown Dog Tick
• Bush Tick
• Paralysis Tick – this tick causes the greatest concern for dog owners. It can be the most fatal for dogs out of all the ticks that are known to affect canines.

 
For regions that have had established tick populations the active seasons are typically between the months of September to April. Ticks hide in grasses and shrubs where they wait for a suitable host to brush past, and then latch on and crawl down to the skin.
 

Signs to look for –
Tick bite symptoms may include:

• Swelling/redness at the site of a tick bite
• Unstable hind legs or not able to get up – this is the most common symptom!
• A change in the sound of the bark or voice
• Retching, coughing (sometimes it is a moist cough), vomiting
• Excessive salivation/drooling
• Loss of appetite
• Difficulty breathing/grunting

 
Dog Health Check –
How to conduct a thorough body scan for ticks:

• Comb your fingers gently over your dog’s skin and fur.
• Pay close attention to armpits, ears and inside/at the corner of mouth.
• In almost 80% of cases of tick infestation, they will be found on the front half of the body – pay extra attention to scanning this area!

 
How to treat ticks –

• Keep your dog comfortable and calm in a resting position
• Remove any ticks on your dog’s body
• Take a photo of the tick in situ to show to your vet for identification
• If the tick’s head remains embedded in your dog’s skin do not apply any chemicals or substances to the bite zone.
• Consult your Veterinary doctor and have tested for the presence of toxins left over from the original tick bite.

 
Prevention is better than cure (of course), and your Vet can advise on a suitable prevention plan for your dog. Conducting a daily health check with your dog is also an effective way of ensuring they are not at risk of being infected by ticks. These checks are especially important after exploring bushland areas or sand dunes. Tilted up, and held high

This is typically a sign of a dog that is well with who they are. Most dogs that feel confident, in control, and in charge will commonly carry their tail higher. This can say a lot about your dog if the behavior doesn’t change when they are around humans and dogs, but if they favor one or the other, the tail can let you know.

Tilted up high and over the back

For many dogs this can suggest “alpha”. Generally, dogs that carry their tail high and extended over their back are feeling quite confident. When it comes to a dog who wants to establish dominance amongst other dogs, the one who displays this behavior is often sure of where they stand in the pack. Keep in mind some breeds have a natural shape similar to this that doesn’t change, but when observing a naturally straight, and active-type tail, this is a dog’s statement piece.

This could mean a couple different things, but mainly stem around the idea that the dog is aware and focused on their surroundings. Sometimes a dog will do this when they’re trying to make sense of what’s going on around them, and other times it could just be that they are very curious about what’s happening at that moment.

They may act like this when they see strangers, other dogs, or unknown visitors in their home. This tail position often portrays a curious, and maybe even a little confusion within the dog. They are alert, but focused, and may tilt their head to one side with perked ears. When training or giving commands, this is a common behavior for dogs and is a great way to take advantage of training as they are focused.

A big, broad wagging tail

A dog that sees their owner or is being rewarded for something may wag their tail in bigger, swift motions to express that they are happy. Your dog will most likely want to play and receive attention, they love that you are engaging their brain, and want you to know it.

A Fast-Wagging Tail

Plain and simple. This is one happy, excited dog! They might do this when their favorite toy or activity has been suggested, such as, “walk”, or just simply couldn't wait to greet you when you come home.

Curved to the Right or Left

Some studies have shown that when a dog positions or “wags” their tail more so to the right, they are content and generally comfortable with familiar faces and spaces. A tail positioned more so to the left may indicate some uncertainty and may be a way of them preparing to express security and dominance.

Is your dog sick?

Typically, when a dog feels under the weather they won’t show much expression with their tail other than keeping it down and low. An inactive tail that hangs low everywhere could potentially mean your dog doesn’t feel well. Pay attention to this behavior when you recognize it because your dog may need something.

A dog and their tail is an innate way for this species to communicate. In fact, tails serve other purposes too, and there is a lot of information out there explaining so. When it comes to wanting to understand your dog’s emotional state, doing your research and paying close attention to your dog’s tail positions may help you get to know them better. Afterall, it’s hard not to notice a happy dog when you see that wagging tail.

Expanding the fur family is exciting once you find yourself ready for it, but if you already have one of these family members, the most important factor to consider is whether your existing alpha dog is too.

If you have been a “one-dog” family for a while now, regardless of your current dog’s age, you may want to plan accordingly as to how you will introduce this transition.

Consider your dog’s temperament

You may have a dog that highly favors other fur friends and welcomes a playmate when given the opportunity. Most of us know a social dog when we see one, and in this case the introduction can be easier.

However, if your dog is more of a “lone-wolf” the transition to this new addition in the home will take a little longer than expected. It’s important to consider what you know about your dog so you can make this approach as comfortable as possible for them.

Remove existing dog items to avoid tension

Introducing two dogs for the first time is typically ideal outdoors and in a neutral area before you do it in the home. The front or backyard is easy, but you can even make it happen at the park.

It’s helpful to make sure there are no existing toys or possessions lying around to reduce any tension that it may create. In fact, your dog may appreciate a designated area with all their belongings in one spot to make that boundary known. You’ll want to make sure the alpha doesn’t experience a threat, and can still appreciate those possessions in the future. This can assist in preventing dog-to-dog aggression in the home.

Ask a friend to help with the introduction

Having more than one person greet the two dogs is ideal as one can hold the leash of the newcomer, and you can work with your existing dog ease into saying the big “hello’. Make sure you both hold the leashes with slack to avoid tension. This should be done in a safe, controlled environment where they feel comfortable, and your presence should remain calm and optimistic.

You can take them on a brief walk, allowing for some distance between them. If they show a liking to one another sooner than later, and portray appropriate body language, you can shrink the distance between them.

If there is automatic tension or any form of a brawl, it’s time to separate them. Avoid pulling on their leashes as it can make them more anxious. Instead, lure them away from each other with a treat in opposite directions.

If both dogs seem happily interested in one another, gradually drop the leash and let them meet face to face.

Expect your alpha to be alpha

You may be inclined to remove or discourage corrections made by your alpha to the new pup, but this is actually normal behavior between dogs as their ancestral instincts encourage newcomers to understand where they fit in in the “wolf pack”.

Your alpha needs to continue to feel like alpha, and it’s okay for them to make a little “snap” or “snarl” here and there to establish how they want to be respected to your new puppy. If you notice any escalated situations, separate the two for a bit if it seems like your alpha is “over-disciplining” your puppy.

Establish a routine and boundaries

It’s important to closely supervise the dog’s interactions the first few weeks. You should encourage playtime opportunities but avoid leaving them alone together the first few weeks to make sure they’re comfortable. Any undesirable behavior or concern like snipping, baring teeth, growling, long stares, or raised fur are all signs of dog-to-dog aggression and may require monitored interactions and playtime but in controlled doses for a while.

Moreover, your alpha dog's eating area should be separate from your puppies. When it comes to meal time, dish your alpha’s food first and the puppy’s second. Moreover, implement small boundaries and acts of patience such as having your alpha walk out the doorway or jump down from the car first.Your puppy will catch on soon enough and reassures your alpha nothing in that aspect has changed for them.

Allow for duo and solo playtime

Letting the dogs play together as much as possible is optimal for their physical and mental health, as well as their relationship.

In addition, it’s a good idea to implement solo playtime for each dog as it strengthens your relationship with the dogs, and avoids over exhausting their relationship so playtime doesn’t turn into potential inappropriate behavior.

Remember, your first fur child has only known you and only you, so it’s important to maintain spending time with them one on one. They will appreciate it, and it will help any overzealous behavior from occurring. Create a consistent, healthy balance between the time you spend with them one on one and together.

Most dogs are happy with the simple things in life. Toys are typically a joy to chase and chew for most. If you and your dog are home bodies, try rolling a ball down the hallway or in the backyard, play tug of war, practice training commands, play “find it” with a treat or toy around the house, or walk them on the treadmill if they find it enjoyable.

In addition, being outside in nature is a great, arguably the best, form of stimulation for most dogs. Outdoor activities can include a walk on our off-leash, running, playing fetch, swimming, jogging while you cycle, and even practicing outdoor training commands.

Over Exercising

It’s important to note that over exercising a dog is possible and should be avoided if you recognize this potential or burnout. Overdoing it with exercise can create unpleasant medical conditions for your dog and cause joint strain. Paying attention to weather conditions is important to avoid overheating your dog on a hot day or causing them any distress.

Prioritizing your dog’s physical activity is crucial for their health just as much as it is ours. Considering your dog’s physical needs and desirable lifestyle will make for a great relationship between the two of you. Find a form of exercise you both enjoy together to maintain that bond. Just like our fitness matters, so does theirs.

Hello pet parents!

We want to thank you for sending your wonderful pups to play with us every week! The Arch City Dog Boarding team feels incredibly lucky to be able to work and play with your amazing pups. While many facilities have play groups with dozens of dogs per group, we are proud to say that our groups stay closer to 4-6 pups per group, with no more than 15 dogs per team member. We do this because it's the safest way for pups to play and we're able to work on obedience cues while getting to know the pups and their individual personalities!

We also provide training to our team members on dog body language and communication, enrichment, safe ways to intervene during play, health, disease prevention, and first aid. We have continued our membership with the International Boarding and Pet Services Association and the Pet Professional Guild, two organizations that advocate for the safe care and training of pets. We want to make sure everyone who is working with the dogs is highly knowledgeable and has the skills necessary to keep everyone safe and happy. We take our commitment to their safety to heart and every pup is covered by our insurance while they are in our care.

We also continue to work on facility improvements and finding new ways to engage with the pups. You have all seen the amazing new kennels on the 1st floor, my next project is looking at ways to cool the yards during the hot months! We've added shade but I'm also looking at additional misting options and possibly swamp coolers! These are basically very large cooling units that can cool the air outside! I'm doing my research now to see which ones will be the best for our set up!

Of course, hiring seems to have been a struggle for so many businesses, and ours is no exception. I'm very happy to say that we do offer a higher wage than other boarding facilities and I have been able to increase our starting rate every year so we are staying ahead of the minimum wage curve! If you expect more than minimum, you have to pay more than minimum!

December 22-27 is already booked (12 dogs). I usually allow us to accept up to 15 over the holidays because we don't have as many daycare pups. If you need boarding over those dates, you need to let me know as soon as possible.

Masks & Covid When will it end? I know it can be annoying so I wanted to share with you all that I'm not able to get my Covid boosters due to the reactions I had after my last booster. Due to the fatigue that I already struggle with (thank you Narcolepsy), getting Covid literally leads to me being unable to function. So please continue to take precautions, please understand why we continue to have a mask mandate, and just know that I'm tired of it too.

Meet Brittany! Brittany joined the Arch City Dog Boarding team in August and she is great! She has experience in dog training and is learning even more about dog behavior and communication! How awesome!

Meet Cherayla! Cherayla joined our team in October and has been fantastic! She graduates from her (high school) Vet Assistant program in December and will be leaving us in January to go to college and continue her Veterinarian/ Vet Assistant career path! How exciting!! How did I get so lucky to have two awesome team members who are both pursuing long term careers in the pet care industry?
