Attaching a Front Harness to a Rear Dog Wheelchair It’s very simple to attach your dog’s front harness to their rear Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair. Each Walkin’ Wheels comes with a standard Front Harness.  When you receive your wheelchair, you’ll see a harness with three different colored straps: red, blue, and black. The three webbing colors can be used as a guide to ensure you’re putting the harness on correctly every time.  Blue – the blue strap should be on the top of your dog’s back and run over your pet’s shoulders.  Black – this strap should sit across your…

If old enough they will have been neutered, if too young the new owners will need to ensure this is done.
All dogs are microchipped
All new owners can apply for 4 weeks Pet Insurance  FREE, to apply please ask us for the pamphlet, our charity reference number is 1400005179.

All new owners will need to change their new dogs microchip information to their contact details. This costs £17. If you would like us to arrange this for you, at a reduced rate of £7.20, we will ask you to do a bank transfer to allow us to register the change.

For Rescue Dogs coming from overseas

This adoption fee is a contribution towards the costs of rescuing the dog including
– microchip, pet passport, vaccines, tests for South European diseases, neutering (IF OLD ENOUGH), parasite treatment and transport to the UK.
We can not home dogs from overseas to people who work full time or long hours, unless some sort of doggy day care is offered. They need someone at home a lot of the day, they are not used to being alone for long periods. A dog walker for an hour out of the day is not enough.
Leaving dogs a long time on their own means they are highly likely to develop separation anxiety which is distressing for them and everyone in their new home.

She is a beautiful girl around 52cm in height and 15kg. The family had her from 8 weeks old unfortunately after the break of the relationship they fill they can’t meet her needs to exercise and train.

Currently in foster at Northampton, NN6. BLUEBELL is playful, affectionate and clever. She is very friendly and easily excitable. Housetrained. Good on the lead. BLUEBELL is currently in at foster family with other kids and another dog.

That’s what the foster family says about her: ” Bluebell is a kind loving girl, she’s still a bit jumpy but she’s still a puppy. She is fantastic at night doesn’t bark, sleeps right through the night, she likes cool places as she has a very thick coat.

Bluebell would suit a family with older children, I would say 10+, her being the only dog is best, just until she’s a bit older. She is good on the lead, her re-call needs work”. BLUEBELL is friendly with other dogs and good with kids, but because of her size, she would be best with older kids. Absolutely healthy. Vaccinated. Microchipped.

Dug – 2 year old male German Shepherd Cross https://thedogvisitor.com/dug-2-year-old-male-german-shepherd-cross https://thedogvisitor.com/dug-2-year-old-male-german-shepherd-cross Dug is a 2 year old male German Shepherd Cross. He is currently located at Corby, Northamptonshire. Dug is very shy and unsure at start but funny, curious and playful like a puppy as soon as settles.

DUG was adopted at the end of July but unfortunately due to family circumstances he needs to find at least Foster ASAP. ”

DUG (formerly Miggie) is a happy, mellow and friendly dog. He’s fully Vaccinated and Microchipped.

He is not neutered. Sadly my shifts have changed at work, and my dog sitter is moving away, which means that Dug won’t have the love and care he needs from me. This is truly heartbreaking as he is the wonderful pup, there’s not another like him.

He loves being outside, and really enjoys long hikes in the woods, and open fields to run in.

Dug has been raised around various aged children, he loves playing and being made a fuss over. He has the most amazing temperament with kids and humans alike. Dug doesn’t bark often either, he’s so laid back.

He needs to go to a family that is ready to give him all the love he needs. Because he has lived with a foster family prior to me, he would suit someone who is home regularly/have another dog for company.

Only recently in the last few months he has been left a few hours a day and my surprise he has handled it fairly well. He’s house trained, but can get a little anxious if left for extended periods of time.

This is something that we’ve been working on, and he’s making real progress. He has never shown aggression towards visitors, people on the street or other dogs.

When walking, he wants to say hello to EVERYONE, dog and person alike! Don’t let that put you off, he’s so a lovely, good natured and friendly boy. DUG is good with other dogs, tolerate cats and great with children.

He isn’t interested in cats whatsoever, he though he might be but the cat hissed and that was the end of his interest! Children he finds great fun when they squeal as all puppies do but isn’t overly interested in children.

He would do better with older children who have the ability to understand a dogs needs to not hinder his confidence journey and not be left for long periods of time. DUG has no known health issues. Full vaccination pack (rabies, DHLPP), provided worms treatment, microchipped.

Jeri – 2 year old male Poodle Cross https://thedogvisitor.com/jeri-2-year-old-male-poodle-cross https://thedogvisitor.com/jeri-2-year-old-male-poodle-cross Jeri is a 2 year old male Poodle Cross. He is a no-shedding and non-allergic breed. Small size (8 kilos/35 cm). Has been with his first family since 1-year-old taken from friends who moved abroad.

Unfortunately, after a recent divorce and job schedule change, a hard decision was taken to rehome him. Located in Burton on Trent, DE15. JERI went to the family for Foster to Adopt unfortunately after 2 weeks of having him with no issues.

Today they had an argument with the resident dog and the family feels it’s not fair as the resident dog is old and now is scared and depressed, so Jeri is looking again for a new home.

\He is a fantastic boy full of love and joy. He is happy to meet new people and gives everyone loads of kisses immediately. He is great with men, women and kids.

But can be active and jumpy so not suitable for little ones. JERI is such a lovely dog, smart, active, very much human-oriented, affectionate and adores kissing.

He just can’t live without kissing his humans and showing in every possible way his massive love for all humans. He walks perfectly and loves it, loves to run around.

JERI loves all dogs and used to live in multi dogs house and can be a great addition to a home with the other dog.

The only weakness of JERI is birds: when JERI sees birds he will just fly after them not seeing anything around. JERI used to live with cats before but will chase if a cat runs, most likely thinking it’s a game.

While can be fine at home with a calm cat, who tolerates dogs and is able to ignore JERI. JERI has non-allergic fur. Does not shed and doesn’t leave hair on carpets and furniture.

But as all poodle-crosses will need grooming, he is used and accepts without any protest. JERI has his vaccinations, is neutered, and is microchipped.

Moving With Your Dog Is Difficult! https://thedogvisitor.com/moving-with-your-dog-is-difficult https://thedogvisitor.com/moving-with-your-dog-is-difficult

A dog’s transition from a familiar to an unfamiliar environment can be uncomfortable and perplexing. Packing, tossing away rubbish, the dreaded exit clean, and the stress of resettling into a new house are all part of the process. It’s hardly unexpected that your pet will pick up on your tension! We’ve put up a few pointers to make your move as stress-free as possible for you and your dogs.

WhatsApp Image 2022 11 21 at 9.20.08 PM 1

How to Support Your dog During a House Move?

  • Plan and prepare ahead of time

Make a to-do list and begin early – and always allow yourself twice as much time to prepare for a move! You’ll already have a lot on your plate, so giving yourself plenty of time to accommodate your pet into your relocation preparations is a smart idea.

  • Prepare your pet for travel.

Before the big transfer, familiarize dogs with their travel crate or box. Make this a pleasant experience for your pet by providing goodies and their favorite toy or blanket inside their crate. Your dog will quickly recognize the crate as a place of safety and comfort. While movers are at work, keep your dog secure inside their travel crate and out of the way in a calm area. An extra room or laundry room is ideal.

  • Perform a safety inspection on your new home.

Before exposing your dog to a new environment, inspect it thoroughly. For example, eliminate any potential threats from the garden or residence, such as small chewable objects or rodents.

  • Dog relocation advice

Dogs will want to familiarize themselves with the new sights and scents of their surroundings as quickly as possible. As a result, take them on frequent walks so they may have a solid sense of the neighborhood. This can also help to burn off anxious energy and relieve tension. It’s also a good idea to leave your dog’s unwashed bedding and toys at the new house to provide comfort and familiarity.

Make time in your schedule to spend time with your dog. The enjoyment and exercise will aid in the prevention of excessive barking and stress-related behaviors.

When a parent sends their child off to school for the first time, they spend the whole day hoping that they are safe, healthy, and content. The same is true for dog owners who leave their adorable puppies at dog boarding facilities. When your clients come in for the first (or second, or tenth) time to check on or pick up their pets, they want to see Bark N Walk and smiling smiles.

Maintaining a safe, well-organized facility with knowledgeable workers is the first step in offering a great dog boarding experience. However, if you want to take your dog boarding to the next level and really wow your clients and canines, you’ll need to go beyond the box.

7 Games To Play With Puppy That Teach Him Essential Skills https://thedogvisitor.com/7-games-to-play-with-puppy-that-teach-him-essential-skills https://thedogvisitor.com/7-games-to-play-with-puppy-that-teach-him-essential-skills Puppy games are incredibly fun, for both you and your little one. These games are a playful way to start exercising your new puppy while teaching him to become socialized, friendly, obedient and calm.

Just like babies, even puppies spend most of their day sleeping. However, they are quite energetic and refreshed when they wake up. Playing games can be effective to utilize that energy, bond with your newly adopted puppy and also teach them important life skills right from a very young age.

So, here are some fun games that you can play with your little pooch.

Name Game: The objective of this game is to teach your pup to look at you whenever you say its name. Say your pup’s name loudly in different tones. When he responds and looks at you, reward him with a treat. Keep on repeating this until he looks at you consistently. First, start playing this game at home where there is no noise. Then, try it when you take your pup on a walk in the park where there is a lot of noise and distraction. Teaching your pup to respond whenever you take his name is a basic training command.

Hide & Seek: Wasn’t this your favourite childhood gamer? Guess what? Even your dog loves this game! It is the best game to teach recall commands and real-life skills to your dog. Start playing this game at your home. Hide in another room and use their name or the command “come” to let them find you. Once your pup finds you, offer them treats and a lot of praise. You can hide further away so that your dog has to search the whole home to find you. If your dog is comfortable finding you, increase the difficulty level of this game. Play this game in your society premises or a park by hiding nearby. Ask a friend to distract your dog when you hide. Call your dog and ask him to start the search.

If there’s ever a moment when you and your dog get separated, the hide-and-seek game will prepare your dog to not panic and learn that finding you is a fun activity.

Tug of War: This is another great game to play with your pooch, as it is mentally stimulating, and physically tiring and teaches impulse control commands to your pup. Use a toy that is specifically made for playing tug of war. If your pooch picks up a cloth or socks, immediately end the game so that he learns his mistake. Use this game to teach your puppy some commands like “Drop it” or “Leave it”. When he drops the toy, reward him with a treat. Slowly, he will understand that dropping a toy can earn him a treat. Also, stop the game immediately if you notice your pup getting aggressive. If his teeth touch your hand, drop the toy. Your puppy will not learn these things in the first seating. It will take some time before he understands that biting is not allowed and that he has to drop the toy when instructed to do so. Finally, let your puppy win at times so that he is motivated to play.

Find the Treats:  Find the Treats is a good game to hone the sniffing ability of your dogs and increase their focus. Ask a family member to hold the dog when you hid a treat. Use the command “find it” to start the game. When you are starting, hide it at a place that is easy to find. Your puppy can use the sense of smell and sight to find the treat. A dog’s sense of smell is 1000-10,000 times stronger than a human’s. When you play this game, you are optimizing your dog’s most evolved skill, which for him is quite satisfying. Over time, you can increase the difficulty level of this game by hiding the treat in another room or at places your dog cannot see.

Touch Me:  Touching your puppy every day will be a part of his upbringing. You will have to touch him frequently for various reasons like grooming, checking ticks and fleas, vet visits, etc. Hence, your dog must learn to tolerate being touched. So, it is important to run your hands over his coat every day. Massage his back, shoulders and paws. Touch his tail and remove any dirt from the ears. Lift his lips to examine the teeth. If you do this daily, your puppy will know that being examined is a part of the play session.

Agility Games: These games are meant to physically exercise the puppy and help them gain confidence. You can start the agility games by having your puppy jump over a small object. Create an obstacle in your living room with blankets and pillows and challenge your puppy to cross that. Puppies love this challenge of jumping, clearing obstacles and being praised. In these agility games, you can even teach your puppy to climb stairs and be comfortable being on the leash.

Sprinkler Games: Some puppies dislike water and the idea of bathing. Sprinkler games accustom your puppy to getting wet and being splashed. These games are also a good entertainment option during the summer months when you and your puppy want to beat the summer heat. If you want to bathe a dirty dog after a tiring physical exercise, you would want your puppy to tolerate water. Sprinkler games and doggie pools teach your puppy to get used to being cleaned and bathed.

Bottom Line: Playing these simple games can strengthen your bond with your pooch and teach them important life skills. These game sessions should only last a few minutes a day. End the game if you see your puppy getting bored or fatigued. Make sure your fido is always excited to play and is having fun while playing and learning. This will keep him motivated and ready to play again next time.

Dachshund Corgi Mix https://thedogvisitor.com/dachshund-corgi-mix https://thedogvisitor.com/dachshund-corgi-mix

Dachshund Corgi Mix - The Dorgi

The dachshund corgi mix is called a “dorgi”. It is a cross from a purebred dachshund and a purebred Pembroke Welsh corgi.

One famous Dorgi was owned by Queen Elizabeth II. She named him Fergus, after her uncle was killed in during the first World War.

Dachshund Corgi Mix Characteristics

1. Their ears may be either erect like the Corgi or floppy like the Dachshund.

2. They will be about 9- 12 inches tall and could weigh from 15 pounds to 28 pounds.

3. The Dorgi will have a fox-like face. The coat may be short or medium in length. It is usually black or brown.

There are two Corgis, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi.

4. Since the Corgi and the Dachshund are barkers the Dorgi will probably be a barking dog as well.

Dachshund Corgi Mix Personality

The dachshund has a playful personality, while the corgi is a lively and affectionate dog.

The Corgi is a herding dog while the Dachshund is a prey hunting dog.

5. The Dachshund Corgi mix is also prone to obesity. They should be kept active and exercised daily.

6. They will be loyal, adorable, and full of energy. They are brave, independent, and protective of their owners.

7. The dachshund corgi mix can live up to 15 years.

8. The Dorgi is a great watch dog as they will bark when someone is near the yard or house.

9. The Dorgi coat could be like the dachshund, which is smooth haired, wire haired, or long haired. Their coat could be more like the Corgi which is more of the dense medium coat.

It will depends on which side of the breed they take after.

10. The colors can be a number of combinations, such as brown, black, tan, gold, or white.

dachshund corgi mix

11. The Dachshund Corgi mix is a breed that doesn’t shed a lot. Their shedding will depend on the coat, so it could be very minimal for a short haired or moderate for a long haired.

If they are a short haired Dorgi you might only need to bathe them once every couple of months. If they are a long haired Dorgi then you might need to bathe them once a month.

Just don’t over bathe them as they are prone to dry skin and too much bathing can rid some of their natural oil.

The long haired Dorgi should also be brushed on a daily basis. If they are short haired you only need to brush occasionally to get rid of stray hairs.

You need to clean their ears on a weekly basis and check the dog's nails and eyes. They will need their nails clipped on a regular basis.

12. It can be difficult to train the dog, as it is prone to stubborn streaks. They may bark when they see strangers or when they don't want to be left alone.

It is important to start setting rules for the Dorgi as soon as possible.

13. Having a dachshund corgi mix can be a great idea for those wanting an affectionate dog that has a close bond with the owners.

Dachshund Corgi Mix Cost

14. The normal cost from a reputable breeder is around $500, which is less expensive than buying either a purebred Corgi or a purebred Dachshund.

It may be difficult to find a breeder as there aren’t a lot of Dorgi breeders.

The Dorgi’s usually have a litter of 2 to 5 pups a year.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi vs Dachshund Characteristics

Whether you are considering a Dachshund or Pembroke Welsh Corgi for your next family pet, you may be wondering how the two breeds compare.

The Corgi was bred to herd livestock and is still used today for this purpose.

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a breed that stands between 10 and 12 inches at the shoulder.

The breed has a docked tail.

They are also known as Herding Dogs, which means they are hardy and built to handle livestock. The breed also has a level topline and short hocks.

They are also very active dogs, so they will need daily exercise. They can come in a variety of coat colors, including black, white, sable and tan.

They are also highly protective and loyal to their owners. They can weigh as little as 11 pounds or as much as 50 pounds. They are also highly vocal.

If you are looking for a dog that will be an excellent companion, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi is one that you should consider.

This breed is easy to care for and a good choice for a family dog.
It is also a very popular show dog.

They are also considered an enchanted breed because of their loyal nature and their happy smile.

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a great breed for families with children. The breed is easy to care for and has a long life expectancy of about 11 to 15 years.

They are highly intelligent, and have a cheerful personality. They are also easy to train, which is important for young dogs.

The Corgi is a small, active, fearless dog. They are often used for herding cattle and sheep.

They are also known for their loud, barking.

They also have a strong desire to interact with people and animals.

They are a great choice for families with children.

Corgis have a double coat, which means it has a water-resistant undercoat and a weatherproof outer coat. They have a choice of white, fawn, red, black, or brown markings.

Their coats are thick and weatherproof, and can last for up to 10 years. It is recommended that they receive regular baths.

They also require daily brushing, which keeps their coats free of clumps and dead hair.

They also have an official "shedding season" in early summer and late spring, which is when they shed more than other breeds.

Dachshunds are known for being very social dogs, and they make great companions as they are loyal to their owners.

Despite the popularity of the dog, however, they can suffer from back issues.

Dachshunds have a long body and short legs, which makes them easy to navigate through tunnels as they were bred to burrow for prey.

They are also very friendly and love to cuddle with humans.

They are good companions but are also a great guard dog.

However, they can be prone to separation anxiety.

They are also extremely active and may be overly playful and stubborn.

The Dachshund Corgi's temperament is usually good, and they make great dogs for families. They are also very sociable, and are very attached to their owners.

However, they can be a bit stubborn, so it is important to be firm with them.

Dachshund Corgi mix issues

dachshund corgi mix

Dorgi’s for the most part are a healthy dog and can live to be 12-15 years of age.

However, it is important to know what health issues are common in Dorgis so you can be on the lookout for signs and symptoms.

1. One of the most common health issues in Dorgis is IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease).

With their long bodies, IVDD could be an issue. This is a condition in which the outer parts of the disc begin to harden.

You must make sure they don’t jump up and down on sofas and beds. And make sure they don’t go up and down stairways.

2. The Dorgi is also prone to separation anxiety. The dog is not suited for apartment living. It is best for homes with free time to spend with the dog.

3. Another common issue is that the Dorgi will tend to bark a lot and they have a loud bark for their size. It will take patience and consistent training so they don’t bark excessively.

4. Dorgis are also prone to cataracts. Canine cataracts cause poor vision and opacity on the lens of the dog's eyes. Cataracts can be treated surgically. However, if the cataracts become too large, they can cause blindness.

5. Dorgis also have a tendency to develop hip dysplasia. This condition is a result of the ball sliding away from the socket. This can cause pain in their hind legs. So you need to make this part of your vet’s checkup.

6. The Dorgi is a glutton and you need to be careful when feeding them, otherwise they could become obese.

If your Dorgi is overweight, you should watch for signs of joint problems. Overweight Dorgis are more likely to develop hip and joint issues.

Conclusion:

Now that you know about the pros and cons of a Dachshund Corgi mix and still would like to own one, you want to purchase one from a reputable breeder.

The reputable breeder will provide paperwork on the parents along with vaccinations, and other info about the parents.

You can check around for breeder clubs or ask your vet about finding a reputable breeder.

Here is a national club s that recognizes the Dachshund Corgi Mix.

Designer Breed Registry.

Why Does My Dog Lick Me So Much? https://thedogvisitor.com/why-does-my-dog-lick-me-so-much https://thedogvisitor.com/why-does-my-dog-lick-me-so-much Has your dog ever licked you out of the blue, leaving you wondering why? If so, you’re not alone. Many pet owners have experienced their dog's excessive licking behavior and can't help but ask themselves: Why does my dog lick me so much?

Why Dogs Lick Their Owners

Fortunately, there are several potential explanations as to why dogs may indulge in this behavior. From a sign of love and affection to an attempt to taste anything interesting they find on your skin, let's explore some possible answers to this common question. Who knows—you might end up learning something new about your furry friend!

1. Affection

One potential answer as to why your dog is licking you so much is affection.

Dogs are known for showing love and appreciation through physical contact, and licking is one of the ways they do that.

Your pup may be giving you kisses out of happiness or simply trying to express their undying devotion to you. This behavior can also occur between two dogs—a sign that they have a strong bond with each other!

It’s important to note, however, that not all licking comes from a place of pure love.

If your dog seems desperate for attention, it could mean there’s something else going on. In some cases, dogs lick their owners for boring reasons or even in anticipation of receiving treats or food in return.

Regardless of the reason, it’s important to remember that wet kisses from your pup are a sign of their affection and appreciation! So, next time you find yourself being showered with doggy kisses, be sure to give them some extra love.

2. Appeasement

Another possible explanation for why your pup might be licking you is appeasement.

This behavior is common among dogs who are naturally anxious or fearful, and they use it to express their submission in stressful situations. In other words, your dog may be licking you as a way of calming themselves down and avoiding confrontation.

If this is the case, then it’s important to understand that your pup needs some extra love and support from you during these moments.

Paying attention to their body language can also help you better recognize when they’re feeling anxious or uncomfortable so that you can provide them with additional comfort.

At the end of the day, excessive licking can be an indication that your pup needs a little more love and attention from you. So, make sure to give your pup plenty of cuddles and reassurance when they’re feeling overwhelmed or scared.

3. Taste Testing

On the other hand, it’s possible that your pup may be licking you as a way to taste something interesting on your skin. Dogs have highly sensitive noses and taste buds, so anything that smells good (or even just different) can be an exciting experience for them.

If this is the case, then it’s important to make sure that whatever they find tasty isn’t harmful to them.

4. Attention-Seeking Behavior

Another potential explanation as to why your pup might be licking you so much is attention-seeking behavior.

Dogs are naturally social animals, and they crave companionship from their owners. If your pup feels neglected or bored, they may be resorting to excessive licking in an attempt to get your attention.

So, it’s important to make sure that your pup is getting enough stimulation throughout the day.

Take them on walks or play some games with them—anything that will keep them happy and entertained! Additionally, show your pup some extra love by giving them treats or cuddles when they’ve been obedient.

5. Anxiety Or Stress Relief

Finally, dogs may lick their owners as a way to self-soothe and relieve stress or anxiety.

This behavior helps them cope with any unpleasant emotions they may be feeling at the moment, whether it’s fear of loud noises or separation anxiety when you leave.

If this is the case, petting them gently or talking in a calm voice can help them feel more secure, while also giving them an outlet for expressing their feelings.

Take a look at: 4 Ways To Relieve Stress With Your Dog

How to Manage Excessive Licking

It’s understandable if excessive licking from your pup is something that you want to manage. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to discourage this kind of behavior.

1. Stimulation

First and foremost, it’s important to make sure that your pup is getting plenty of exercise and stimulation throughout the day.

Take them for walks around the neighborhood or play some fun games with them—basically anything that will keep their mind occupied and help them expend their excess energy.

2. Redirect Your Pups' Attention

If those methods don’t work, then try redirecting their attention away from licking by offering a chew toy or giving them commands. This will help them focus their energy on something else and discourage excessive licking.

3. Be Patient

It’s also important to remember not to punish your pup for this behavior—it won’t solve the underlying issue and could even make the problem worse.

Instead, try calmly telling them “no” in a firm voice and redirecting their attention away from licking.

4. Love Your Pup

Finally, make sure that you are meeting all of your pup’s needs with plenty of love and attention.

All in all, Why Does My Dog Lick Me So Much? is an interesting question with many possible answers. From being a sign of affection to an attempt to relieve anxiety, there could be several reasons behind this behavior. And while it can be annoying at times, it’s important to remember that your pup just wants your love and attention.

Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to manage excessive licking and make sure your pup is getting the care and stimulation they need.

With consistent effort, Why Does My Dog Lick Me So Much? can become Why Doesn't My Dog Lick Me So Much! – an outcome that is sure to bring both you and your pup a lot of joy!

Happy cuddling!

FAQ

Why Does My Dog Lick Me So Much?

Why Do Dogs Like To Lick Their Owners?

When it comes to Why Do Dogs Like To Lick Their Owners? - the answer is quite simple; dogs love their owners and licking is a sign of love, affection and loyalty. It’s an instinctive behavior that goes back thousands of years, when wolves would lick their pack members as a way to show submission and respect.

Do Dogs Have A Favorite Person?

Yes, dogs do have a favorite person! Dogs are extremely loyal creatures, and it’s natural for them to form strong attachments with certain people. Generally speaking, their favorite person will be the one who provides them with the most love, care and attention. This could be someone who feeds them, takes them on long walks, plays with them and cuddles with them.

If a dog has multiple owners, they may even show different levels of affection to each one! So, the next time you look into those puppy-dog eyes and feel that extra special bond – remember that your pup might just have chosen you as their favorite.

Dogs are social animals, and they crave companionship from their owners. So when you cuddle with your pup and give them lots of attention, they may lick you as a way of showing appreciation for being close to them.

How Does A Dog Know You Love Him?

A dog's ability to sense and understand the emotions of its human family is a remarkable trait. Dogs have an innate understanding of love, loyalty, and devotion that many other animals don't possess. But how does a dog know you love him? Here are some ways your pup can tell how much you really care:

  1. Body Language. Dogs are incredibly perceptive of body language. They can sense when you're happy, sad, anxious, or angry just by the way you move and carry yourself. When you show your pup affection through physical contact like petting and cuddling, he’ll be able to recognize that as a sign of love.
  2. Verbal cues. Dogs understand more than just our body language; they can also recognize verbal cues like “good boy” and “I love you” as signs of affection. Even if your pup doesn’t obey commands, he still knows that these words are directed at him with a positive intention.
  3. Quality time. Spending quality time together is a great way to show your pup how much you love him. Whether it’s taking walks and playing together, teaching him tricks, or simply lounging around the house, these moments of bonding can help him recognize that he’s important to you.
  4. Food treats. A dog's stomach is probably the most reliable indicator of love. Dogs will do a lot for food, and when you give him treats as rewards or just because, he’ll know that it’s coming from a place of genuine love.
  5. Special gifts. Giving your pup special gifts shows him how much you care about him and his well-being. Whether it’s a cozy bed, chew toys (or even a DIY toy), or cute clothes, these gifts are tangible reminders that you love your pup.

Cali – 1&2 year old female Terrier Cross https://thedogvisitor.com/cali-1-2-year-old-female-terrier-cross https://thedogvisitor.com/cali-1-2-year-old-female-terrier-cross Cali is a 1-2 year old female Terrier Cross. She is a little firecracker. Full of energy and character, she will make sure you are never bored.

Cali is active, curious and very clever. She loves playing and going on her daily walks; she’s lead trained, happily wearing a harness. Although she wants to come across as very sure of herself, Cali struggles with confidence and needs help in overcoming her fears.

She is making great progress but she is still learning that strangers and other dogs are not a real threat. She usually warms to women quicker than to men, but given the time and space, she takes to everybody.

She always appreciates an opportunity to meet a stranger outside first, before they enter the house – her ultimate safe space. When out on a walk, Cali prefers to be ignored at first and approach strangers in her own time.

It usually doesn’t take long before she’s asking for a fuss, especially around women. She is making impressive progress around new dogs too, learning to ignore ones that intimidate her. She won’t miss a chance to let a cat know what she thinks of them with persistent barking, so a no-cat household is a must.

Cali is a sweet, affectionate girl, in need of a quiet and loving home. She will be a good match for a family with no small children and no other pets. With time, patience and consistent training Cali will soon show her true colours, of a loyal, fun and incredibly adorable companion. Cali is currently living in Kent.

9 Tips for Keeping Your Cat’s Teeth Clean and Ensure Good Oral Health https://thedogvisitor.com/9-tips-for-keeping-your-cats-teeth-clean-and-ensure-good-oral-health https://thedogvisitor.com/9-tips-for-keeping-your-cats-teeth-clean-and-ensure-good-oral-health Maintaining clean teeth is the primary dental care for cats but not enough to prevent all kinds of dental problems. Staying alert about your cat’s dental health is extremely important because cats cannot express their oral discomfort when chewing or biting. Cats have an innate tendency to conceal pain which might aggravate dental problems.

Even though it might seem everything is fine with your cat, the reality could be different. Your cat might have some dental issues which you need to investigate proactively to prevent them from turning into serious problems, like a painful mouth and increased discomfort that might even require surgery.

Tips for being proactive to prevent dental problems in cats

Bad breath can be alarming

Cat parents are familiar with ‘kitty breath,’ a mild fishy scent that is normal for any healthy cat. But detecting bad breath in your cat is a sure sign of some dental problems. Persisting bad breath can turn worse. You must act fast to prevent the worsening of the condition.

Bad breath in cats accompanied by drooling indicates some gum diseases or could be a sign of tooth decay. You need not be concerned if your cat has occasional bleeding gums, but if accompanied by bad breath or drooling, your cat needs tooth extraction or deep cleaning.

Arrange for an annual check-p of your cat

Regular visits to the veterinarian might not include a dental check-up of your cat. Dental care is an afterthought for us unless compelled to visit the dentists, and the cats get a similar response from their owners. But cats have dental issues if left untreated, which can cause serious health problems.

During the annual check-up, ensure that the vet does a dental check. Besides evaluating the overall health, the vet should evaluate the dental health too.

Start a dental care routine for your cat

A cat’s day should start by cleaning the teeth like our kids. Cat owners should clean their cat’s teeth every day at the same time in the morning. Start the practice while the cat is still young, preferably kittens, because older cats can be more resistant to it.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AMVA), use gauze with toothpaste made exclusively for cats to clean kittens’ teeth daily so that it becomes a habit. To make the experience more pleasant, dip your finger into canned chicken or tuna before rubbing it on the teeth and gums.

Diseases That Are Common Among Cats

Gum stimulation while brushing

One of the essential features of maintaining good oral health for your cat is to pay equal attention to the teeth and gums. Since tooth decay usually starts with inflamed or irritated gums, you should massage the gums while cleaning the cat’s teeth.

If the gums appear reddish and irritated, it is an unhealthy sign because normal gums are pink. The redness of the gums indicates some dental disease. Massaging your cat’s gum can speed up healing and strengthens the gums, thus reducing the chances of gum problems later on.

Give dental diets to your cat

For maintaining good teeth for your cat, pay attention to the diet. Being selective about foods and choosing the right foods in consultation with your veterinarian should ensure that your cat has healthy teeth and overall good health.

Cats with oral or dental problems can benefit from prescription diets designed to improve cat’s dental health. These diets, backed by sufficient clinical proof, help maintain good dental health if you feed your cat as the veterinarian advises.

Offer treats that reduce tartar

When pampering your cat with some treats, ensure that these are of the right quality that supports good health. Choose treats approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) as these have gone through clinical trials and meet the standards of effectiveness.

Dentalife and Greenies by Purina and Whiskas’ Dentabites are approved treats that your cat will like much, and these help in tart control besides cleaning teeth. However, depending on treats is not a wise thing to do because brushing your cat’s teeth is the primary dental care for your cat. The treats and chews act as supplements.

dog and cat bond

Toys can improve your cat’s dental health

Hard bones are part of a cat’s natural diet, as they should be for predators. Chewing bones are good; for your cat’s oral health as it aids healthy gums and teeth. As domestic cats cannot be predators, veterinarians suggest that toys can be a good substitute for mice and other animals that cats prey upon.

Giving hard toys to cats for chewing is a good practice to take care of their dental health. However, the toys must not be too hard as they can damage teeth. The hardness of toys should be like that of your fingernail. Use toys made specifically for cats.

Fresh water is good for cat’s teeth

When cats drink water, it cleans their mouth from any leftover food particles inside the mouth. Always ensure that your cat drinks enough water after meals. Food debris sticking inside the mouth can lead to bacteria build-up that causes tooth decay and gingivitis.

Be alert about the dental health of your cat

Do not take gum problems and tooth decay lightly, as they can lead to severe problems of the kidneys, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses.

Regularly check the oral cavity of your cat. Look for signs of dental problems and take timely action.

A New Way to Help Your Senior Dog Feel Good https://thedogvisitor.com/a-new-way-to-help-your-senior-dog-feel-good https://thedogvisitor.com/a-new-way-to-help-your-senior-dog-feel-good

This is a guest article from a colleague with Jope and is being contributed by founders Christine Colamonico and Jeremy Adjovi Boco.

A common misconception about aging is that it’s a synonym for fatigue and decreased activity. But did you know that fatigue and reduced activity often show osteoarthritic pain?

In 2021, 15 million adult dogs in the U.S. suffered from osteoarthritis and senior dogs, eight years and up, are most affected. A study showed that 70% of dogs suffer from osteoarthritis and mobility issues at this age.

Now ask yourself if it’s normal for your senior dog to be less active and have trouble going upstairs. You’ve got it; the response is NO.

Fortunately, while you can’t cure osteoarthritis, you can find solutions to help your dog feels better, be more active and live a happier senior life!

How can you help your older dog feel young?

Different complementary solutions exist when it comes to helping your senior dog live their best life.

Veterinarians call it multimodal therapy, which combines different therapies for the best results. We will share here with you our favorite easy-to-implement multimodal solution:

Add vet-grade supplements to your dog’s diet

This is an easy change to implement in your dog’s routine that will go a long way to having them live a healthy life. Ideally, start giving veterinary-grade supplements when your dog is a puppy to support their growth. Then, continue when they are adults for a healthy lifestyle.

You can find many in the market, so choose wisely. First, prioritize supplements with UC-II, a different kind of collagen that is clinically and scientifically proven effective. Also, look for supplements with high doses of omega-3, specifically EPA and DHA, to help with joints, skin, hair, metabolism, and overall health.

Key take-home 1: look for a veterinary-grade supplement with UC-II and a high dose of omega-3.

Keep your senior dog active

You must remember that older dogs should always stay active!

However, you must adjust the activity time and intensity according to your dog’s overall health and capabilities. You want your dog to keep moving so the muscles stay strong and joints stay flexible. If your dog stops moving, joints will stiffen, and muscles will atrophy. As a result, a vicious circle will continue decreasing your dog’s activity and increasing their weight. Inactivity and obesity will reduce their quality of life and lifespan.

If you notice your dog struggling during normal daily activities, think about decreasing duration and intensity and increasing frequency. For example, replace one 45-minute run with two 20-minute fast walks.

Hydrotherapy is part of physiotherapy. It’s a powerful tool to keep your dog active while protecting the joints. Water resistance will decrease the pressure on the joints while strengthening the muscles. You can seek out dog rehabilitation centers or bring your dog to the beach or a lake.

Targeted exercises to reinforce your dog’s muscles are also a great way to keep their joints healthy. Ask your veterinarian for a visit, so they can show you how to perform specific exercises.

Key take home 2: keep your dog’s joints and muscles moving so your dog feels good!

Monitor and adjust your dog’s diet

Age decreases metabolism, so your dog will need fewer daily calories. Also, age will reduce their energy needs as they exercise in moderation.

So, you want to decrease the number of calories your dog eats daily.

You always want to ensure your dog gets a well-balanced, high-quality diet. Premium quality is essential for senior dogs as they need easy-to-digest nutrients to fuel them daily. Older dogs don’t have the exact needs as before.

  • High-quality and easy-to-digest proteins are vital to protecting your dog’s kidneys while giving your senior dog the energy they need to remain active.
  • A higher quantity of omega-3 will help your dog’s metabolism, and you’ll see visible results in the hair, skin, and joints.
  • A high-fiber diet will allow good intestinal transit and ensure your dog stays healthy. Adding zucchini to your senior dog’s diet is a great way to bring fiber and have them feel fuller longer.
  • An appropriate level of vitamins and minerals will help boost your dog’s well-being.

Ask your veterinarian for recommendations if you feel lost because of all the available options or if you want to cook homemade meals for your dog.

Key take-home 3: monitor your dog’s weight and switch to a high-quality protein and premium diet for a senior dog.

“Christy here, my dog Walter is obese and we’re trying hard to get the weight off. He’s ten and as a doxie we are working with a vet-board approved nutritionist on a fresh food diet to help with this issue. We’re also doing weekly hydrotherapy sessions. Whatever you decide to feed your dog, make sure you are measuring out the food for each meal and the calories match with what their daily intake needs to be. Also, remember to feed less if you used a lot of treats for training that day!”

What is UC-II?

Type II collagen is a different kind of collagen naturally present in humans and dogs.

UC-II is undenatured type II collagen and results from extracting the natural type II collagen from chicken cartilage through a delicate patented process. Therefore, type II collagen and UC-II have the same 3-D structure.

When your dog takes UC-II, Oral Tolerance allows the natural structure of UC-II to:

  1. enter the body through the intestines
  2. prevent the immune system from degrading joint cartilage
  3. help repair joint cartilage

Unlike other ingredients on the pet market, many scientific and clinical studies have objectively demonstrated the efficacy of UC-II. As a result, UC-II use is increasing in human medicine and veterinary specialists.

What are the benefits of UC-II for your dog?

Dogs of all ages can benefit from UC-II and, most of all, senior dogs.

According to the 20+ studies made on osteoarthritic dogs :

  • UC-II provides a significant reduction in pain associated with osteoarthritis
  • It helps dogs to be more active.
  • It has shown similar results to NSAIDs (robenacoxib, which is like carprofen) in improving mobility for dogs with osteoarthritis.
  • It increases the pressure dogs put on their joints and muscles, indicating decreased pain.
  • It limits cartilage breakdown and helps maintain healthy joint metabolism.

Simply put, UC-II will help relieve senior dogs from joint discomfort and pain so they can live happier and healthier lives.

Is UC-II the same as chondroitin and glucosamine?

UC-II mode of action differs from chondroitin, glucosamine, CBD, MSM, and other ingredients you usually find in retail and online spaces.

Several studies have shown that UC-II is more effective than chondroitin and glucosamine in helping dogs with mobility and reducing pain and inflammation.

The most powerful study on UC-II is the “Plate-force study.” It used technology to show that arthritic dogs given UC-II could significantly increase the weight they put on their painful leg.

This study objectively proved that dogs with UC-II® felt better. In contrast, dogs with glucosamine and chondroitin showed no increase in the weight they put on their painful leg.

What else can you do to help your senior dog?

Ergotherapy

Your older dog might have difficulties with some actions, like getting in the trunk. Although you don’t want to avoid these situations altogether, you want to make them accessible.

Ergotherapy is the science of making actions possible and easier for your dog.

For the trunk example, you might use a ramp or a homemade “stair” to get in the trunk.

Physiotherapy

We mentioned hydrotherapy earlier, but physiotherapy includes many other activities. For example, your older dog could benefit from massages, therapeutic exercises, lasers, electrostimulation, or ultrasound therapy.

Visit your veterinarian for a senior evaluation visit and enquire about specialized structures they recommend.

The key takeaway is that older dogs should be energetic and that fatigue is often a sign of osteoarthritic pain.

Your senior dog will have healthier joints and live happier lives if you:

  • Give them veterinary-grade hip and joint supplements with UC-II® and high doses of omega-3.
  • Keep them active daily, with adequate exercises.
  • Monitor their weight and give them a high-quality, balanced meal.

It’s always a fantastic idea to be proactive in your dog’s health. Book a visit with your veterinarian for a senior dog wellness assessment and enquire about diet changes and old dog-specific exercises. You will love to see your dog full of energy again!

They are amazingly selfless and generally don’t even require much back in return, other than to be fed, loved, exercised, and snuggled.

Food is definitely the way to most dog’s heart, especially Roxy! It’s important to keep our dogs in the best shape possible. In addition to ensuring plenty of exercise, we must focus on their nutrition, as doggy nutrition is just as important as our own.

Even though the topic of dog nutrition sounds simple, it’s easy to forget the impact food has on our pets. While it might seem loving to allow our dog to lick up the leftover onions from our plate, onions are actually toxic for dogs. In fact, many seemingly innocent human foods are toxic to dogs, so it’s important to be mindful of this.

Read on for seven tips to boost your dog’s nutrition!

Learn Which Foods Are Toxic To Dogs

I don’t know about you, but chocolate is my go-to treat! It can be extremely dangerous for our dogs, however. I remember when Roxy was a tiny, 3lb pupper and came across a Hershey’s Kiss. She scarfed that thing down, wrapper and all, faster than I could move!

I was frantically googling to see what levels are harmful. Luckily, one milk chocolate kiss didn’t affect her at all. This calculator from VeterinaryClinic.com is amazingly helpful for determining the risk.

Always keep in mind that there are a number of foods that are poisonous to dogs – not just chocolate, but garlic, onion, avocado (especially the pit, which can cause an obstruction), and the sweetener xylitol, among other things.

Xylitol is so dangerous that I was against even bringing it into the house. Even a tiny amount can cause rapid onset of hypoglycemia, which can be life-threatening. It’s important to familiarize yourself with these, just to keep your dog safe and healthy.

Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Sjogren’s Syndrome, where almost all of the ways to manage dry mouth symptoms involve xylitol. Now I keep it securely sealed in a bag inside my nightstand, safe away from the pups being able to get into it.

Research Dog Food Labels Thoroughly

There’s a lot of marketing hype around dog food. Dog food manufacturers spend as much on advertising as human food manufacturers; with just as many headline nutrition benefits sound good on paper. It’s important to look deeper into the labels to find the best food for your dog.

A lot of dog food is heavily processed and full of ‘fillers’, for instance, meaning you really do want to check the label, just like you would with human food, to confirm the main ingredient is a high protein meat and not all filler or junk.

Avoid Overfeeding Your Dog

We all love our dogs so much that we often overfeed them, as a treat. Showing them love with excessive treats and food can lead to an overweight dog, which could have long term health problems.

Measuring how much you feed your dog is a great way to watch their intake. It also has the added benefit of alerting you to changes in eating behavior, which could be related to a medical issue.

Use Natural Supplements For Your Dog

I’m a huge fan of using vitamins and supplements to increase your dog’s overall health, wellbeing, and nutrition. Chronic conditions like arthritis and hip dysplasia often see some improvement when supplements with antioxidants and omega oils or natural anti-inflammatories like hemp oil are added to their daily routine. Check out how hemp oil is great for your dog’s health!

Ensure Your Dog Has Fresh, Clean Water

Dogs need to drink frequently, particularly in summer, as dehydration can cause serious health problems…even death.  Just like humans, the higher the temperature and amount of exercise – the more your dog needs to drink.

Having access to a plentiful supply of clean drinking water is critically important, as dogs can only survive a very short time without water. For an electrolyte boost on extra-hot or highly active days, consider giving your dog coconut water as a healthy addition.

Minimize Inflammation From Processed Foods

Inflammation is a major cause of disease and premature ageing, in both dogs and humans, processed foods are inherently inflammatory and often arthritis and pancreatitis are the result when providing a diet overly reliant on processed food with low nutrition value.

To limit this, it’s important to avoid giving your dog people food, no matter how much they beg. That doesn’t mean they can’t be spoiled, however!

Try To Feed Your Dog Raw Food

Humans are the only species on the planet that cook their meat, as most animals eat raw food – including meat.  When we cook our food we lose many vital nutrients, and it’s the same when we cook food for your dogs. Some dogs do amazingly well on a completely raw diet!

Roxy and Rico are pickier eaters, however, and won’t touch raw food. For street rescues, they are very finicky about their nutrition! Plus, a raw diet can be expensive and you need a quality, reliable source of raw meat that is safe.

There are many delicious homemade dog food recipes available for those that insist on it being cooked.

Dog stung by a bee? What you need to know https://thedogvisitor.com/dog-stung-by-a-bee-what-you-need-to-know https://thedogvisitor.com/dog-stung-by-a-bee-what-you-need-to-know With the onset of spring comes flowers, and with those come bees. Chances are you’ve seen hilarious photos of a dog stung by a bee with cartoonishly swollen noses. But much as we love nature’s pollinators, a bee sting can be dangerous to humans and dogs. Just like humans, our dogs can have deadly allergies to a sting.

So what do we do if a bee stings our dogs, and how do we know if it’s serious?

How To Tell If Your Dog Got Stung By A Bee

We first need to know how to recognise a bee stung. This is no problem if your dog was chasing a bee and you saw them swallow one, but if you didn’t see the sting, you need to identify it.  A dog can have four basic types of responses to bee stings:

Signs of a mild local reaction to a bee-sting

This is a simple reaction to a bee sting in dogs that are not allergic. You may see

  • Possible mild signs of distress such as whining, panting, or lip licking
  • Showing signs of pain or irritation, such as limping or holding up a paw if they stepped on the bee
  • Swelling and heat in one area called the wheal and flare.
  • Nibbling or pawing at a particular area
  • A pustule
  • Itchiness

Signs of a regional reaction to a bee sting

This is a mild allergic response that you need to keep a close eye on.

  • The dog may look more visibly distressed, such as crying, rapid panting or restless.
  • Redness and inflammation
  • Excessive swelling and or hives
  • Hardness around the sting site
  • Extreme itchiness

Signs of a severe allergic reaction after a bee sting

The following are signs that your dog needs to go to the vet immediately:

  • Vomiting.
  • Diarrhoea.
  • Hives
  • Breathing extremely fast or extremely slow
  • Coughing or wheezing
  • Runny discharge from nose and eyes
  • Very fast or very slow heart rate
  • Extremely swollen head or muzzle
  • Excessive drooling
  • Blue gums and tongue
  • Excessive itching
  • Wheals or swelling red skin

In rare cases, the fourth kind of allergic reaction can happen. This delayed anaphylactic shock can occur up to two weeks after the sting.

Some breeds, specifically Bull Terriers, Boxers,  and Staffordshire Terriers, seem more prone to bad reactions to bee stings, so pet parents of these dogs should take extra caution.

What Do You Do If Your Dog Gets Stung By A Bee?

The most important thing to do if your dog has a bee sting is to stay calm and follow these steps:

    1. Try to find the site of the bee sting to remove the stinger.
  • Do not use tweezers or your fingers to remove the stinger. Squeezing can force more venom into your dog’s skin.
  1. Instead, take a credit card or something flat, thin, and hard to gently leverage the stinger out of the skin. Lift it up from below the poison sac.
  2. Apply ice to the site.
  3. Monitor your dog for at least 30 minutes for any signs of an allergic reaction (but read our additional information below on the possibility of delayed reactions and which breeds are more at risk)
  4. If your dog swallowed a bee, look for signs of swelling blocking their airway and be prepared to open it if you need to.

You can call your vet and ask about giving your dog a human antihistamine. Common advice is to give a dog Benedryl for allergies, which sometimes works for canine swelling and hives. However, human antihistamines are often quite ineffective on dogs.

In one study, only 18% of dogs responded to Cetirizine, one of the more effective human antihistamines. Furthermore, OTC human antihistamines often have added compounds, such as decongestants, that are dangerous for dogs.

A better idea than to rely on human antihistamines is to speak to your vet and ask about potentially getting a prescription for canine antihistamines to keep in your dog’s emergency kit. If you suspect your dog has an allergic reaction, place a pill under its tongue and try to keep it there while it dissolves.

An online pharmacy such as Pet Chemist can help you save up to 50% on these kinds of medications if your vet authorises it.

Will My Dog Be Okay After A Bee Sting?

Your dog should be fine after a bee sting but it is important to keep an eye on them in case they are allergic. In non-allergic dogs, the red swelling (wheal & flare) will disappear in 30 to 60 minutes. It may then form a pustule within 24 hours that can last up to 3 weeks and be very itchy.

Try to stop your dog from scratching the bee sting, as breaking the skin can cause a secondary infection. Speak to your vet about a topical ointment for itchiness if this is a problem.

Essential facts every dog owner should know about bee stings

If your dog has a severe reaction to a bee sting, it may be worse the next time. Dogs that have previously been stung or stung by multiple bees are more prone to an allergic reaction. Multiple stings are particularly dangerous.

Being stung by more than 20 bees is lethal for most mammals. So it’s best to ask your vet for a prescription for effective canine antihistamines to keep close to your pet emergency essentials. Also, be aware of your dog’s environment to avoid bees wherever you can.

It’s essential to monitor your dog for at least 30 minutes after a bee sting to check for signs of an allergic reaction. Severely allergic dogs will usually show signs of anaphylaxis within 10 minutes after the sting.

However, there is such as thing as delayed hypersensitivity reactions that can occur three days to 2 weeks after the sting. These cases may be quite severe, so if you have a breed more prone to bee sting allergies, keep a closer eye on them.

If your dog does show signs of anaphylactic shock from a sting, stay calm and get to your emergency centre quickly. The important thing to remember is that even dogs with severe anaphylaxis have an 85% survival rate, provided they get medical treatment.

Final Thoughts

Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be hazardous to our pets. As pet parents, it’s good practice to know what to do if our dogs are stung by bees, wasps or other insects and to recognise the signs of an allergic reaction. Being prepared for an emergency and ready to act fast when needed is all part of being the humans our canine companions need.

Hobbs in Texas& MOVING TO AVAILABLE SOON! https://thedogvisitor.com/hobbs-in-texas-moving-to-available-soon https://thedogvisitor.com/hobbs-in-texas-moving-to-available-soon

Hobbs is not yet ready for adoption. We are still evaluating his personality and addressing his medical needs. An email notification will be sent when he becomes ready for adoption. If you wish to receive the notification, please sign up for our mailing list at the top of the front page of our website. Adoption fees are set at the time a dog goes available and applications can only be submitted at that time. Please follow our website and social media pages for updates on Hobbs!

Hello everyone! Allow us to introduce Hobbs to the Village!!

Hobbs is a gentle giant weighing a plump 29 pounds at almost 2 years old. He is a happy, healthy dog who is dying to be the center of attention. His hobbies include splooting, head scratches, and chasing the vacuum. He is super sweet to all humans, even littles!

Hobbs is housebroken but does mark inside. His foster family is hopeful that neutering him will help with the marking. He is crate trained, remaining calm and quiet for the short periods of time that he has been in his crate in his foster home. He tends to still pull on the leash during walks, though, so he will require additional training in this area. He gets along with other dogs, but it is not known how he would do with cats.

He is an independent fella except for when being outside to potty. He likes to have company for this. ???? He is not a lap dog and is actually quite the busy bee. Hobbs will make a great addition to a family, big or small, once he becomes available for adoption! Keep an eye out for when he is ready!

We greatly appreciate any and all donations! $400 will help us provide Hobbs with some basic essentials, such as a leash and food, as well as help us cover some of his vet bills.

You can also Venmo us @FrenchBulldogVillage or text "DONATEFBV" to 44321 to donate through our secure link!

The 5 Smartest Dog Feeders with Timers That Will Make Your Life Easier! https://thedogvisitor.com/the-5-smartest-dog-feeders-with-timers-that-will-make-your-life-easier https://thedogvisitor.com/the-5-smartest-dog-feeders-with-timers-that-will-make-your-life-easier Having dog feeders with timers is an ideal way to help control your pet’s feeding time. Timers can be set to take several seconds to hours or even days. It’s all dependent on how often you have them fed. The longer you set it, the more control you have over when they go to eat.

If you want to make sure your pet is getting fed while you’re out, there’s nothing more convenient than a timer feeder. No more worrying about how much food they will eat and how long it takes before they are done eating. Dog feeders with timers just take care of that for you. Today, I’m going to show you some of my favorite dog feeders with timers.

Whatever type of pet you have, chances are that you will eventually need to feed them. Whether you want a quick meal or something more elaborate, there are various ways to go about it. There are several types of dog feeders with timers available on the market, so it’s up to you to decide which one may suit your needs best.

Why A Dog Feeders With Timers is Useful For Your Pet?

Dog feeders with timers are a useful tool for your pet. It allows you to feed your dog in a controlled manner and helps you monitor their eating habits. A dog feeding timer ensures that the amount of food your pet receives at each meal is consistent.

It also makes it easier for you to monitor your pet’s weight, as well as their overall health by keeping track of their intake over time. A feeding timer can help you lose weight as well because it will show you how much food you’re feeding your dog and what portion size they need.

If you have multiple pets, this device can also help you keep track of how much food each one consumes so that you can make sure they get enough nutrition at all times.

What to look for in Dog Feeders?

The top dog feeder is the one that you can use to control how much your pet eats. There are many options available, so it’s important to choose one that works best for your pet and family.

There are many different features to consider when choosing a dog feeder. Here are some of the most important ones:

1. Size

The size of the feeding station is an important consideration when choosing an auto dog feeder. The desire to fit your dog’s food in a smaller space means that you’ll need to get one that is designed to be small and compact.

2. Timer

The ability to program your pet feeder with a timer is another feature that can be found on some models. A timer will allow you to set up times for feeding, so your dog doesn’t have access to its food when you’re not home.

This can prevent any issues with leaving food out too long and also helps to prevent unhealthy eating habits such as binge eating or grazing all day long.

3. Safety and convenience:

The most important factor to consider is whether or not your dog will be able to get access to the food in the feeder. If your pet is prone to getting into things, this could be a safety issue.

If your dog is able to get out of the room, you should consider a low-cost, no-frills model with a lockable door.

4. Ease of cleaning:

You don’t want to have to clean out your dog’s bowl every day, so make sure that it’s easy to clean up after your pet has finished eating.

Many automatic feeders are dishwasher-safe, so you won’t have to worry about scrubbing out the bowl after every meal. If you’re more of a hand-washer type, consider how much space you have in your kitchen for a dishwasher and if it can be located in an area where it won’t get damaged by water or debris.

5. Ease of use:

It’s important that you can set up the feeder easily and that it doesn’t take up too much space on your countertop or table. You also want it easy for your pet to eat from as well, so make sure that it doesn’t have any hard edges or sharp edges that could cut their tongue or lips while eating.

The Smartest Dog Feeders with Timers That Will Make Your Life Easier!

The PetSafe 2 Meal Pet Feeder is designed to help you keep your pet fed without having to learn how to use a clockwork timer. This easy-to-use feeder features timer-operated lids that allow you to set the amount of time it takes for food to expire, so you can easily regulate your pet’s portions.

This feeder holds up to 1.5 cups of dry or semi-moist food. You can set the timer any time up to 48 hours in advance. The lid helps keep your food fresh and the removable trays make it easy to clean in the dishwasher.

Conclusion

Perhaps the best way to decide which dog feeders with timers are right for you and your dog would be to do some research. The four products listed above are just a few of the options you have, and there are dozens more on the market. Only you can decide what features are most important for your pet. Furthermore, consider how many times per day you will feed your dog, and how much food he or she eats at each meal.

Ultimately, it will depend on your dog. Some might need extra time to consume the food, and others might have different appetites. So figure out what works best for your dog, as well as your schedule, before settling on any model in particular. It might take a few tries to get things right, but in the end, it will be worth it when you find a system that works.

You should keep a pet first aid kit handy at all times. Having one on hand can help you provide the best possible care for your pet and allow you to react quickly when an emergency occurs. Here’s what you’ll want to include:

Bandage Scissors

The best tool for cutting bandages is a pair of scissors. A sharp point on these scissors could cause severe injury if it accidentally pokes through the skin while trying to cut through something else. Its tip should be blunt.

Gauze Pads

Gauze pads are a must-have in your pet’s first aid kit. They have many uses:

· Stop bleeding by absorbing blood from a wound.

· Protect wounds from further contamination

· Cleanse minor cuts and abrasions by soaking gauze in water, hydrogen peroxide (3%), or saline solution,

A Bottle of Sterile Saline Solution

You can use sterile saline solution, to clean wounds, flush out eyes and ears, flush out the nose and mouth, and even put in an IV. It’s also great for giving your pet much-needed hydration when they have diarrhea or vomiting.

Vet Wrap

Vetwrap is a self-adhesive bandage used to wrap up wounds and hold splints in place. It’s also great for holding ice packs in place, something you should have on hand.

Canola Oil

Canola oil is an excellent lubricant and can be used to help treat wounds. Canola oil is also helpful in treating dry skin on your pet’s paws or around their eyes. Applying a small amount of canola oil on an itchy skin patch will help soothe it.

Tweezers and Hemostats

Tweezers and hemostats are great for removing splinters, ticks, and foreign objects. If you have a tick on your pet, use tweezers to grab it. For splinters or other small objects embedded in the skin, use hemostats to grab onto the object and pull it out as close to the skin as possible. Finally, you can use tweezers or hemostats when applying ointment on wounds; they’re accommodating if you have a small dog who doesn’t like having its paws handled.

A Thermometer (preferably a digital one)

You need to be able to quickly and easily check your pet’s temperature if they are uncoordinated or behave strangely, which could indicate a fever, heat stroke, or other illnesses. A digital thermometer is best because they are fast and accurate.

Take their temperature if you suspect hypothermia in your pet due to cold temperatures or water exposure. If it reads below 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius), you should warm them up immediately by wrapping them in blankets or putting them next to a heater until their body warms up again.

Disposable Gloves and Iodine Wipes

A first aid kit is not complete without iodine wipes—they clean wounds, hands before and after treating the wound, and even disinfect surfaces. Iodine is a good antiseptic because it kills bacteria on contact.

Be Prepared for Emergencies

When it comes to your pet’s health, you can never be too prepared.

If there’s ever an emergency, it will be good to know where the nearest hospital is located and their operating hours. If possible, have their cell phone number on file in emergencies.

It is a good idea to take first aid procedures so that you know how to administer CPR or other life-saving techniques in case of an accident.

Visit a Veterinarian if Unsure about Your Pet's Health

If you are unsure about your pet’s health, take them to a veterinarian or the nearest 24-hour emergency animal hospital. If your pet suddenly gets sick or if they start acting differently than usual, it’s essential to visit a vet right away. If you delay, it can be harder for them to recover from whatever’s wrong.

When Should My Puppy Start Obedience Training? https://thedogvisitor.com/when-should-my-puppy-start-obedience-training https://thedogvisitor.com/when-should-my-puppy-start-obedience-training

When Should My Puppy Start Obedience Training?

When you first bring your puppy home, their angelic little face warms your heart so much. The enthusiastic smiles, the excited jumping, even their gnawing on your hand a little is all just so adorable.

Until it’s not.

Puppies are such adorable creatures but they come with some not-so-adorable tendencies that will only worsen without proper obedience training. Cute little yips become loud obnoxious barking, puppy nips start to hurt, and so on.

But when should a puppy start obedience training? Let’s look at a rough schedule.

How Old Should a Puppy Be For Training?

Puppies are like babies. They start learning about their world as soon as they open their eyes and start crawling around. They also learn quickly.

What they learn depends on the environment around them. If the environment is permissive, the puppy will start developing bad habits. But if the puppy is gently pointed in the right direction, they quickly learn what is acceptable.

Mama dogs start teaching them to behave as soon as the puppies are born. But most puppies leave their mothers once they are a few weeks old so they no longer have this input.

What does this mean for obedience training? You can and should start training as soon as you get your puppy. Puppies are generally about 7 – 8 weeks old when people bring them home. While they won’t be ready for complex training yet, you can definitely start with the basics of dog training.

But what exactly are those basics? Let’s break it down and look at a rough timeline of when your puppy should or can start learning what.

7 - 8 Weeks Old

Dog training at this age means socializing your puppy and laying the foundations for what type of behavior is acceptable. What does that mean? Play with your puppy!

Stroke their ears and paws and include rewards to help them get used to being touched. This will make vet visits easier later on.

You can also put a collar or harness on your pup for short periods to get them used to wearing it. Then add the leash and have them walk around with you indoors.

Use mealtimes as short training sessions. Offer your puppy a bit of food, but use it to put them in a sitting position while giving the cue “sit.” Reward immediately once they sit. Continue with short bits like this until they associate the word with the action.

8 - 10 Weeks Old

If you want to crate-train your dog, this is a good time to start. Bring them to the crate for short intervals when they are already calm. When they go inside, give them a reward.

It is also a good idea to feed your puppy in the crate to help make it a positive place for them.

10 - 12 Weeks Old

It’s usually about this time that things start getting intense with your puppy. They put everything in their mouth, including your hands, ankles, and shoes.

It’s impossible to get a puppy to stop biting things altogether, so it’s important to redirect instead. Teach your puppy what’s not okay to bite and have plenty of toys and objects available that they can chew on.

12 - 16 weeks

At this point, you can start potty training. Before this, puppies can’t really hold it so you should be offering plenty of opportunities to go outside to avoid accidents as much as possible. However, around this age, they start developing enough bladder control and can learn to wait.

But be patient! They won’t get it immediately. Focus on rewarding them for going outside and not punishing them for accidents.

6 Months

Puppies that have received dog training according to this schedule will be doing pretty well by 6 months. From here, it’s just a matter of reinforcement. Remember that dogs are energetic and you need to give them plenty of space and time to run so they can be calmer indoors.

GivingTuesday: PRIDE+GROOM Giving Back to Animals in Need https://thedogvisitor.com/givingtuesday-pridegroom-giving-back-to-animals-in-need https://thedogvisitor.com/givingtuesday-pridegroom-giving-back-to-animals-in-need At PRIDE+GROOM, we are always looking for ways to give back to animals in need and the rescue community. Since our brand launched and our products were born, we have partnered with hundreds of rescue organizations, shelters, non-profit organizations, and programs that give back.

One Fur All

PRIDE+GROOM developed THE ONE FUR ALL CONDITIONING SHAMPOO as a way of giving back to the animal welfare community with the hope that a clean, soothed, great smelling rescue has a better chance of finding a forever home. Labeled solely for shelter donation, we aim to provide THE ONE FUR ALL to shelters and rescues across the country, starting with those close to our hearts and following with recommendations from our dog loving PRIDE+GROOM community.

With GivingTuesday on the horizon, we wanted to give a well-deserved shout out to one of our favorite organizations here in New York City: Animal Haven, who we will be partnering with on this special day of giving.

What is Giving Tuesday?

GivingTuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday for the purposes of hashtag activism on social media, is celebrated and observed on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is touted as a "global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world". There are so many different ways to show generosity on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor out, making a donation, or showing up for an issue you care about, we each have something to contribute. Identify your gifts, pick a cause that gets you fired up, and give back. Each seemingly small act turns a ripple into a wave of good, transforming society and building the world we all want to live in.

There are so many ways small businesses and brands can be a part of this global day of generosity by using their platforms, talents and resources for good.  One of those ways is to raise money for an organization that you and your employees are passionate about. This GivingTuesday, that organization is Animal Haven.

Who is Animal Haven?

Animal Haven is a nonprofit animal rescue that finds homes for dogs and cats in crisis, and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve quality of life and chances of adoption. Founded in 1967, they operate an animal shelter in downtown New York City. They also provide programs that enhance the bond between animals and people, and help to keep animals in their homes whenever possible. Our Co-Founder, Jane Wagman, has sat on the board of Animal Haven for many years. She is very passionate about the work they do, and has even rescued several dogs of her own from their intakes.

Animal Haven will never euthanize an animal for space or time. Adoptable animals will stay in their care for as long as it takes to get them adopted or placed in a more suitable rescue or foster situation.

Rehabilitation & Training Program for Homeless Pets

Animal Haven is committed not only to saving the lives of homeless pets, but also enriching those lives and providing key resources to adopters to aid in healthy, happy lives with their new pets. As the proud recipients of a generous grant from the Regina B. Frankenberg Foundation, Animal Haven has implemented a comprehensive rehabilitation and behavioral training program. Overseen by a certified dog trainer, this program follows their rescued animals from the moment they enter their doors through the process of settling into their new homes.

They have made a commitment to evidence-based, positive reinforcement training and handling methods free of force, fear, pain or coercion. The most current scientific research supports humane, positive reinforcement training methods as the most effective method for modifying animal behavior from basic obedience to the most difficult cases.

Animal Haven’s Rehabilitation and Training Program includes:

  • Daily training and enrichment sessions with behavioral staff to install basic obedience behaviors, impulse control and target behavior modification such as body handling, resource guarding and socialization. Sessions are designed to address the unique needs of each animal and to help prepare them for living in a home environment.
  • Advanced volunteer training that empowers Animal Haven’s army of volunteers to advocate for the animals, teaching them force-free handling skills and interpreting body language to assist in the animals’ holistic rehabilitation experience while in their care.
  • Counseling sessions with prospective adopters to encourage matches based on both the animals’ and adopters’ unique needs and lifestyles.
  • Resources and continued support for adopters after they’ve brought home their new pet.
  • Assistance for the tri-state community at large via their Pet Behavior Hotline, which assists people in an effort to keep pets and their families together, particularly in times of need.

How to Adopt a Pet From Animal Haven

Feeding your Great Dane the best fresh dog food can have a big impact on their overall health. There are so many brands out there, but many Great Dane parents are wary of the processed ingredients used in them. Have you ever considered making homemade food for your Great Dane but didn’t have enough time or knowledge to do it? If so, the best fresh dog food brands might be for you.

Fresh dog food is a great way to give your Great Dane a balanced diet with human-grade ingredients, but how do you know which brand is the best for your pup? Let’s take a look at the qualities of fresh dog food along with some popular brands.

best fresh dog food for Great Danes

What is Fresh Dog Food?

Fresh dog food usually refers to pet food that’s made with natural ingredients cooked at a lower temperature to preserve the nutrients. Thus, it doesn’t contain the additives and preservatives that are often in kibble.

Most fresh dog food brands will make a custom formula for your Great Dane based on its lifestyle, and it’ll get delivered right to your door. Most formulas are made from scratch shortly before shipping, which is why it’s called “fresh” food.

Some Great Dane parents are hesitant to try fresh dog food because it can be pricier than processed dry or wet food, but it makes up for it because of the quality ingredients and the personalization.

Benefits of Fresh Dog Food for Great Danes

Every type of dog food has its advantages and disadvantages. These pros and cons might help you decide if fresh dog food is right for you and your Great Dane.

Pros

  • Customizable – Fresh dog food brands usually personalize meals to fit your dog’s needs. This will ensure that your Great Dane gets proper portions and nutrients while avoiding sensitivities.
  • Fresh Ingredients – The ingredients are fresh, natural, and minimally processed, giving your dog the maximum nutrients possible. You’ll know exactly what ingredients are going into your Great Dane‘s tummy.
  • Good for Picky Eaters – Fresh food is more flavorful than kibble, making it appealing even for picky Great Dane pups.
  • Delivered to Your Door – Most brands deliver their fresh food right to your door on a set schedule, so you don’t have to carry home heavy dog food bags anymore.

Cons

  • Pricey – Fresh food tends to be more expensive than kibble, so it might not be ideal for Great Dane parents on a budget.
  • Short Shelf Life – Since fresh food doesn’t have as many preservatives as kibble, it doesn’t last as long. It usually needs to be refrigerated or frozen to stay fresh. So, it will need to be delivered more frequently than other types of food would.
  • Needs to be Refrigerated – The food needs to stay cold to stay fresh, so it could be an inconvenience for storing during travel.

What to Look For in Fresh Foods for Your Great Dane

Looking closely at the features of each dog food brand can help you narrow down your choices. So, here are a few aspects to choose from when selecting the best fresh dog food delivery.

Ingredients

Ingredients are important in any dog food. Many dogs have favorite flavors or ingredients they’re allergic to. So, by examining the ingredients listed, you can decide if the food is something that will be safe and interesting for your Great Dane. Luckily, many of the best fresh dog food brands offer customizable meal plans to make sure the ingredients cater to your Great Dane‘s needs.

Customizable

For many Great Dane parents, having personalized meals is important. If the meals are catered to your pup’s needs, they’re more likely to be beneficial. Plus, customizable meals help many dog parents feel at ease knowing exactly what’s going into the food. If this aspect is important to you, choose a fresh dog food brand that offers custom meal plans.

Price

It’s no secret that fresh dog food can be pricey, but some options cost more than others. The more customizable the food is, the more expensive it will likely be. Food that’s shipped to your door may also cost more than fresh food sold at stores. If you’re on a budget, you may need to consider the prices closely when making your decision. Usually, the higher prices have better quality, but more affordable options can still provide health benefits.

Delivery

Fresh pet food usually offers delivery options, so the food can be shipped frozen right to your door. Delivery is more convenient than picking food up at a store, but it may also cost more. So, decide if delivery is a priority to you when selecting a brand.

Contact

Finally, the company’s customer service is an aspect that shouldn’t be ignored. If you have questions about the company or concerns about your order, it should be easy to reach out to them and get help. The best fresh dog food companies are usually happy to send you a new order if something goes wrong. Check the company’s reviews to see how other people rated their communication.

You’ll start by telling Nom Nom about your dog. Then, they’ll formulate meals that cater to your Great Dane‘s needs. They’ll regularly ship the fresh food to your door while keeping it cold until you use it.

The recipes only use natural ingredients like meat and vegetables. The food is packed with essential nutrients and no filler ingredients. Nom Nom uses a colorful blend of only human-grade ingredients that are USDA-certified.

The food is slow-cooked on low heat, so it can hold its moisture and nutrients while still meeting all the required health and safety standards. For dogs, they sell beef, turkey, chicken, or pork as the primary protein. The recipes are designed by vets and canine nutritionists, and they have limited ingredients to make them a great option for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

This brand doesn’t sell any already-made formulas, but instead, they create a custom meal plan based on your Great Dane‘s needs. The questionnaire isn’t as thorough as it is for other personalized fresh food brands. The frozen food is shipped to your door. You’ll need to defrost it overnight and scoop out your pup’s portion to serve their meal. If you don’t want to serve only this food to your Great Dane, you can set up a meal plan that allows you to mix the fresh food with your dog’s dry food.

Transparency is important to this brand. On their website, they have a map that shows you where each ingredient is sourced from. Each batch goes through strict lab safety testing before being shipped to customers, and the food is always prepared in USDA-certified kitchens.

The food is delivered in frozen packages to your door, but a few stores also sell it.

This brand uses sous vide cooking, which means “under vacuum” in French. The food is vacuum sealed and cooked at a precise temperature to preserve the flavor and nutrients. When you receive the food, you can let it thaw in the fridge overnight before your Great Dane‘s next meal.

The fresh food options come in beef, pork, turkey, or chicken. You’ll determine how many patties to give your Great Dane based on their weight. All the formulas are created by a veterinary nutritionist, and they’re only ideal for adult dogs, not puppies.

This brand has four fresh dog food recipes: beef, chicken, turkey, and surf & turf. The recyclable food packaging is transparent, so you can see the variety of ingredients before you open the package. The lot code on the packaging traces every ingredient to its source, so you’ll know exactly what your Great Dane is consuming. All the meat comes from humanely-raised animals.

You can get the food shipped to your door, or you can find it in select stores. It’s shipped frozen to preserve the freshness. How to Transition Your Great Dane‘s Food

When you switch your Great Dane to a drastically different diet, there’s a chance they could get sick. So, if you switch your dog from kibble to fresh food, their tummy may not react well. Even though fresh dog food uses healthy human-grade ingredients, it’s drastically different than your dog’s dry food. Thus, you’ll need to carefully transition them to the new food to avoid digestive problems.

Many of the brands have information on how to transition the food on their website, and their customer service teams may be willing to give you advice too. But here’s a general schedule you can follow when transitioning your dog to a new diet:

    • Days 1 and 2: 80% old food, 20% new food
    • Days 3 and 4: 60% old food, 40% new food
    • Days 5 and 6: 40% old food, 60% new food
    • Days 7 and 8: 20% old food, 80% new food
    • Day 9: 100% new food

This is a more cautious schedule, but the more gradual the transition is, the less likely your Great Dane will react negatively. You can adjust this schedule based on your pup’s needs. If your dog is more sensitive to new foods, you may want to make the transition even more gradual. On the other hand, if your dog rarely has digestion problems, the process doesn’t have to be as slow. It all depends on your furry friend’s specific needs.

Feeding your Goldendoodle the best fresh dog food can have a big impact on their overall health. There are so many brands out there, but many Goldendoodle parents are wary of the processed ingredients used in them. Have you ever considered making homemade food for your Goldendoodle but didn’t have enough time or knowledge to do it? If so, the best fresh dog food brands might be for you.

Fresh dog food is a great way to give your Goldendoodle a balanced diet with human-grade ingredients, but how do you know which brand is the best for your pup? Let’s take a look at the qualities of fresh dog food along with some popular brands.

best fresh dog food for Goldendoodles

    What is Fresh Dog Food?

Fresh dog food usually refers to pet food that’s made with natural ingredients cooked at a lower temperature to preserve the nutrients. Thus, it doesn’t contain the additives and preservatives that are often in kibble.

Most fresh dog food brands will make a custom formula for your Goldendoodle based on its lifestyle, and it’ll get delivered right to your door. Most formulas are made from scratch shortly before shipping, which is why it’s called “fresh” food.

Some Goldendoodle parents are hesitant to try fresh dog food because it can be pricier than processed dry or wet food, but it makes up for it because of the quality ingredients and the personalization.

Benefits of Fresh Dog Food for Goldendoodles

Every type of dog food has its advantages and disadvantages. These pros and cons might help you decide if fresh dog food is right for you and your Goldendoodle.

best fresh dog food for Goldendoodles

    Pros

    • Customizable – Fresh dog food brands usually personalize meals to fit your dog’s needs. This will ensure that your Goldendoodle gets proper portions and nutrients while avoiding sensitivities.
    • Fresh Ingredients – The ingredients are fresh, natural, and minimally processed, giving your dog the maximum nutrients possible. You’ll know exactly what ingredients are going into your Goldendoodle‘s tummy.
    • Good for Picky Eaters – Fresh food is more flavorful than kibble, making it appealing even for picky Goldendoodle pups.
    • Delivered to Your Door – Most brands deliver their fresh food right to your door on a set schedule, so you don’t have to carry home heavy dog food bags anymore.

    Cons

    • Pricey – Fresh food tends to be more expensive than kibble, so it might not be ideal for Goldendoodle parents on a budget.

What to Look For in Fresh Foods for Your Goldendoodle

Looking closely at the features of each dog food brand can help you narrow down your choices. So, here are a few aspects to choose from when selecting the best fresh dog food delivery.

    Ingredients

Ingredients are important in any dog food. Many dogs have favorite flavors or ingredients they’re allergic to. So, by examining the ingredients listed, you can decide if the food is something that will be safe and interesting for your Goldendoodle. Luckily, many of the best fresh dog food brands offer customizable meal plans to make sure the ingredients cater to your Goldendoodle‘s needs.

    Customizable

For many Goldendoodle parents, having personalized meals is important.

      2. Nom Nom

      Nom Nom fresh dog food

Nom Nom has the easiest system to use. The meals are portioned in compact vacuum-sealed bags, so all you have to do is open the packaging and pour the meal into your Goldendoodle pup’s bowl. Their meals can include beef, chicken, pork, or turkey.

You’ll start by telling Nom Nom about your dog. Then, they’ll formulate meals that cater to your Goldendoodle‘s needs.

      Benefits:

      • Personalized for your dog
      • Servings are individually packaged
      • Recipes are formulated by a veterinarian and nutritionist
      • Ingredients are natural and human-grade
      • Food is delivered to your door and kept cold

      3. Raised Right

Raised Right only sells fresh, human-grade dog and cat food.

This brand doesn’t sell any already-made formulas, but instead, they create a custom meal plan based on your Goldendoodle‘s needs. The questionnaire isn’t as thorough as it is for other personalized fresh food brands. The frozen food is shipped to your door. You’ll need to defrost it overnight and scoop out your pup’s portion to serve their meal. If you don’t want to serve only this food to your Goldendoodle, you can set up a meal plan that allows you to mix the fresh food with your dog’s dry food.

Transparency is important to this brand. On their website, they have a map that shows you where each ingredient is sourced from. Each batch goes through strict lab safety testing before being shipped to customers, and the food is always prepared in USDA-certified kitchens.

      Benefits:

      • Personalized food for your Goldendoodle
      • Shipped to your door
      • Made in USDA-certified kitchens
      • Website shows a map of where all ingredients are sourced from
      • Good for dogs with sensitive stomachs

      4. A Pup Above

      A Pup Above fresh food

A Pup Above sells dry dog food, but they’re best known for their fresh dog food. You can also buy combos of the dry and fresh food. This brand doesn’t provide a personalized service like some of the other brands, but you can save money if you get a subscription. The food is delivered in frozen packages to your door, but a few stores also sell it.

This brand uses sous vide cooking, which means “under vacuum” in French. The food is vacuum sealed and cooked at a precise temperature to preserve the flavor and nutrients. When you receive the food, you can let it thaw in the fridge overnight before your Goldendoodle‘s next meal.

The fresh food options come in beef, pork, turkey, or chicken. You’ll determine how many patties to give your Goldendoodle based on their weight. All the formulas are created by a veterinary nutritionist, and they’re only ideal for adult dogs, not puppies.

      Benefits:

      • Sous vide cooking
      • Shipped to your door and available in some stores
      • Crafted by a veterinary nutritionist
      • Only made with human-grade ingredients
      • Made in a USDA-approved kitchen

      5. Spot & Tango

      Spot & Tango Fresh Food

Unkibble has recipes with fish, beef, and chicken, while the traditional fresh food comes with turkey, beef, or lamb.

Both types of fresh food are personalized based on your Goldendoodle‘s needs before they’re sent to you. All you need to do is fill out a questionnaire about your dog, and the brand will create a personalized meal plan. Both types of food use human-grade ingredients, and they’re formulated by veterinarians and animal nutritionists.

Once you set up a meal plan for your Goldendoodle, you can get the food shipped to your door. The fresh food arrives frozen, and the Unkibble is a unique type of fresh food that’s dry. The slim packaging of the traditional fresh food comes in serving sizes, so it’s clear how much you need to feed your dog per meal. You’ll find whole ingredients in the dog food.

      Benefits:

      • Has two types of fresh food: traditional recipes and Unkibble
      • Ships to your door in slim packaging

This brand has four fresh dog food recipes: beef, chicken, turkey, and surf & turf. The recyclable food packaging is transparent, so you can see the variety of ingredients before you open the package. The lot code on the packaging traces every ingredient to its source, so you’ll know exactly what your Goldendoodle is consuming. All the meat comes from humanely-raised animals.

You can get the food shipped to your door, or you can find it in select stores. It’s shipped frozen to preserve the freshness. Open Farm doesn’t provide customizable plans like some of the other brands, but you can fill out a quick questionnaire on the website to calculate a custom serving size for your Goldendoodle pup. The food arrives at your door frozen in ready-to-serve, biodegradable packages. The feeding and storing instructions are easy to follow, and they have your dog’s name on them, so you know you’re getting their special meal.

This is a more cautious schedule, but the more gradual the transition is, the less likely your Goldendoodle will react negatively. You can adjust this schedule based on your pup’s needs. If your dog is more sensitive to new foods, you may want to make the transition even more gradual. On the other hand, if your dog rarely has digestion problems, the process doesn’t have to be as slow. It all depends on your furry friend’s specific needs.

It’s no secret that our beloved dogs are the descendants of wolves. But with their friendly, cuddly behavior, and close companionship, we can forget that they’re not so distant from wild animals.

So when a woman named Lucy adamantly claimed that her Husky, named Storm, actually preferred eating a variety of vegetables over a bowl filled with meat, hosts of British talk show “This Morning” decided to put it to the test.

      Storm
      YouTube

It was right after a heat wave had hit her area, and her Husky, Storm, was feeling particularly picky, so she decided to switch-up her diet. Lucy’s neighbor, Ben, had recently transitioned his dog from a meat-based to a veggie based diet. He suggested that she may want to try doing the same.

So, despite not being a vegetarian herself, Lucy started serving Storm a dog food made without meat, and was adding in her family’s leftover veggies as well.

“During the summer months she went off her food, strangely. She seemed to perk up, be a lot happier. She really took to it,” Lucy explained.

      On the couch
      YouTube

Lucy wasn’t the only person who was interviewed during the segment that morning. Veterinarian Scott Miller joined Lucy on the couch, and was asked all about his thoughts regarding a dog being fed a vegetable based diet.

When interviewed, he said that he respected people who opted to eat a vegetable based diet. But he was keen to remind viewers that not only are dogs omnivores (and that they thrive when fed both meat and vegetables), but that our pets aren’t actually able to make that choice for themselves.

“It’s a choice… our pets can’t make that choice,” said the vet.

It’s up to us as their caretakers to make an incredibly informed decision, and to make sure that their diet includes all the nutrients they need.

      The Moment Of Truth

After Lucy explained that she truly believed Storm preferred eating vegetables over meat, show hosts wanted to put it to the test. So they brought out two dog bowls filled to the brim with food. One was filled with vegetables and the other was piled high with meat.

Much to her owner’s embarrassment, the hungry Husky made a mad dash for the bowl filled with meat. Storm dove-in with gusto, as his mom sat there shocked.

As you can imagine, viewers had a strong reaction to the seven-minute segment. Comments almost immediately started flooding in, and plenty of people felt inclined to share their thoughts. Reactions ranged from jokes to jabs, with some people calling Lucy’s feeding choice “animal cruelty.”

      Angel &TX https://thedogvisitor.com/angel-tx https://thedogvisitor.com/angel-tx

Angel is an approximately 6 years old mixed breed dog. (We believe she is at least part Dalmatian.) she is completely housetrained, HW neg, up to date on shots, receives regular flea/tick and heart worm prevention, and is spayed.

She knows some signs already. Her owner was older and due to declining health was forced to surrender her back to Braveheart Animal Volunteers. She’s a very nice, well behaved dog, who gets along well with her two foster siblings. She is very reactive to cats, so a cat free home would be best. Angel can be very timid when you first meet her but after just a few minutes she warms up to new people.  She deserves a home where she can be loved for the rest of her life.

Set those tails to Wagg mode as Christmas has just come early! https://thedogvisitor.com/set-those-tails-to-wagg-mode-as-christmas-has-just-come-early https://thedogvisitor.com/set-those-tails-to-wagg-mode-as-christmas-has-just-come-early That’s right, Wagg have absolutely nailed it with their festive treat selection this year and we are here to tell you all about them!

With four irresistible flavours to choose from, your pooch will be spoilt for choice this season! These treats make the perfect stocking filler for the fur babies in your lives, but why wait until the big day? We cracked ours open early to get the Christmas party started early and it’s safe to say all our doggos are obsessed!

Our four pooches, Puggy Smalls, Pops, YumYum and Pomegranate have always loved Wagg treats, as they are super affordable, mega tasty and great for training, walkies and as a cheeky little snack. The range is so varied that the dogs never get bored and the four Christmas flavours certainly lived up our expectations!

With four very different dogs in our family, we can struggle to find a treat that all love and enjoy, but Wagg have knocked it out of the park yet again and we can make sure all our needs are met such as watching Puggy’s waistline, safe for our 10 month old pup and suitable for older doggos with few teeth like Pops!

Our pooches thoroughly enjoyed tasting all four flavours, Three Bird Roast, Turkey and Ham Pie, Christmas Cookies and Turkey, Stuffing and Gravy and they were a huge hit! The Three bird roast was definitely the favourite in our household, they smell so delicious, we had hours of fun using them for training, photoshoots and hiding them in snuffle matts for the dogs to sniff out themselves! Jam packed with Turkey, Chicken and Duck and wrapped up perfectly in resealable festive themed packaging, we recommend them to pooches whether they are old, young, large or small!

The treats are the perfect size for pooches, and it’s easy to watch their calorie intake as they are only small! The consistency is absolutely perfect, especially for little puppers like YumYum and for older pooches like our lovely little Pops! They are easily breakable if you prefer to give smaller pieces, but great as one whole tasty snack!

These festive treats are definitely on our Christmas wish list and they make the most perfect stocking fillers for the pooches in your life! They are delicious, totally irresistible, nutritious and budget friendly! What better way to include your pooch into the festive celebrations!?

Wagg treats are available at most great pet stores and supermarkets nationwide! Get your paws on them now and get your Christmas pooch party started early too!

Dog Ramps https://thedogvisitor.com/dog-ramps https://thedogvisitor.com/dog-ramps Your dog can’t move around the way he used to. He might have trouble with stairs or his favorite window seat, and you feel his disappointment. Fortunately, a whole industry supports canine mobility with ramps and stairs that can help him feel younger again.

What are dog ramps and why use them?

Ramps are flat sloping boards that replace stairs with a gradual incline that’s easy to walk up or down. Most dog ramps are made of wood, plastic, or metal, and their surfaces include carpet, fabric, artificial grass, and nonskid materials.

When positioned between the floor and furniture or between the ground and your car’s door, a dog ramp can:

      • Reduce joint strain and arthritis pain.
      • Assist older dogs who can no longer jump into a car or onto a sofa or grooming table.
      • Prevent injury to you or whomever helps the dog climb up or down.
      • Reduce stress or anxiety associated with mobility tasks.
      • Help developing puppies stay safe by preventing hard landings.
      • Help dogs of all ages recover from illness, accidents, injuries, or surgery.

What should I look for in a dog ramp?

Dog ramps come in all kinds of materials, sizes, and price ranges. Here are some considerations.

      • If you plan to use the ramp indoors and out, look for durable materials that survive weather changes.
      • An adjustable ramp can be used in different situations or with different vehicles.
      • A folding or collapsible ramp will be easy to transport.
      • Be sure the ramp will fit in your vehicle if you plan to travel with it.
      • Nonskid surfaces, safety rails, and sturdy construction help prevent accidents.
      • The ramp should be an appropriate size for your dog and it should support her weight.
      • Be sure the ramp’s slope is comfortable for your dog. Small dogs and dogs with mobility problems often need a gentle or easy slope.
      • Check to be sure you can lift, extend, adjust, or move the ramp easily.
      • Look for a ramp that is easy to clean so it will stay fresh and look attractive.

What is the best dog ramp for my car?

Think about where you’re likely to go with your dog in the vehicle you’re most likely to use. Bi-fold and tri-fold collapsible ramps with skid- or slip-resistant surfaces are popular options, but check the size and weight of the ramp along with assembly instructions and slope to be sure it’s a good match for you and your car as well as your dog.

What is the best ramp for my bed?

Pet stairs and ramps make it easy for dogs to climb onto your bed or other furniture. Check the weight capacity for stairs, as different models support 20 pounds to more than 150. For convenience, look for a ramp or stairs that can be left in place, and for aesthetic appreciation, choose one that goes well with your furniture.

Ramps are unfamiliar to most dogs, so introduce your ramp in a quiet area free of distractions and practice with rewards and praise.
