Tico

Tico
Tico is a beautiful young boy Podenco Andaluz x, with a short and shiny black coat, with white chest and four white paws. He is just two years old, and he is of  medium size.
Podencos are frequently abused and abandoned, when hunting  season is finished, and poor Tico was found  tied to a chain in the middle of nowhere, just skin and bones.
The little lad was scared, and he had obviously been abandoned by the hunter who would have have no longer needed  him. Once we cut the chain to release him, he immediatly trusted us, and he allowed us to pick him up.
Despite so terrible an experience, Tico is a very nice, gentle and affectionate boy, just a little bit timid at the beginning  with new people he dosnt know, but in a very short time he gains trust.
He learned to walk fine on lead and enjoys his walks but as he hasnt got recall he needs to remain on lead until he has bonded with his new owners, and is trained in commands.
He likes other dogs and cats.

Tico is very good in the car and visiting the vet.

He is a young and health boy, and he needs daily exercise, he loves walk and run, of course in a safe enclosed area.

A family with active lifestyle who enjoy walking or a large garden would be the best home for him.

He loves to play, so a family with another dog would be perfect!! and we think he will like living with children over 10 years.
His Best Points :
Tico is super  bright and intelligent, very affectionate  and extremly loyal  with his family.

Foster Report :
Tico respond well to a positive reinforcement training, like  little treats or caresses.
Very gentle, friendly with dogs and cats, despite his hunting instinct .
Tico is very obedient and loves to please his owner.

Adopting A DogWatch UK Rescue Dog

Before being adopted, dogs will have been vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas.
If old enough they will have been neutered, if too young the new owners will need to ensure this is done.
All dogs are microchipped
All new owners can apply for 4 weeks Pet Insurance  FREE, to apply please ask us for the pamphlet, our charity reference number is 1400005179.

All new owners will need to change their new dogs microchip information to their contact details. This costs ÂŁ17. If you would like us to arrange this for you, at a reduced rate of ÂŁ7.20, we will ask you to do a bank transfer to allow us to register the change.

For Rescue Dogs coming from overseas

This adoption fee is a contribution towards the costs of rescuing the dog including
– microchip, pet passport, vaccines, tests for South European diseases, neutering (IF OLD ENOUGH), parasite treatment and transport to the UK.
We can not home dogs from overseas to people who work full time or long hours, unless some sort of doggy day care is offered. They need someone at home a lot of the day, they are not used to being alone for long periods. A dog walker for an hour out of the day is not enough.
Leaving dogs a long time on their own means they are highly likely to develop separation anxiety which is distressing for them and everyone in their new home.
