Wayne – TX

Meet adoptable deaf 4 year old Wayne who is looking for a loving forever home with someone who will cherish him, keep up his training and always keep him safe.

From his shelter advocate: Wayne originally came into my shelter at 6months of age. He had been left in a crate with all of his items and a note saying that whoever left him, did not want him anymore. The family’s whose house/yard he was left in, brought him in for a stray hold and then decided to adopt him. They were a growing family with children, and when Wayne was sleeping the 8yr old went to hug him and he was startled, causing Wayne to bite leaving small scratches on the child’s face. They decided to surrender him. Wayne was put back up for adoption and after about a month was adopted again.

Fast forward from 2019 to 2022 and he was surrendered again due to this adopter having family issues.
Just days after being with us this 3rd time, he began to show some shelter stress quicker than before. The Pflugerville Animal Shelter works with Starmark Academy, and they take our untrained dogs to teach people how to train dogs. We asked if they would be interested in teaching a Deaf dog. Starmark was happy to give their students the opportunity and Wayne went and stayed with them for about 3months. The staff, interns and students all adored Wayne, he really thrived there. He was taught commands of their choosing that we now keep up with. He knows sit, shake, down, wait, and how to walk well on a leash.
Wayne is done with training and now back at our shelter, waiting for his forever home.

The staff here at the Pflugerville Shelter use a flashlight to wake him up if he is sleeping, so not to startle him.
He keeps a clean kennel, does well with dogs that understand his communication style, and loves to play with people. Wayne will steal your heart and make you smile if you let him. He is 4yrs old, neutered, microchipped, up to date on all shots, de-wormed and is up to date with flea/tick prevention and heartworm prevention.
