Dogs, just like people, can get dandruff an annoying, unsightly skin condition. Dandruff is dry, flaky skin. Its made up of dead skin cells that fall from the skin, looking like white flakes. Dandruff is not normal and needs to be taken note of.

If you do his treatments properly, his prognosis of recovery is good. Dandruff in dogs can be a common finding but is not normal. If you notice your dog has flaky skin, you should take him to his veterinarian for an evaluation. Do not use a human dandruff shampoo on your dog without consulting with your veterinarian.

Dandruff is comprised of dead skin cells that have fallen off the skin. When they stick together, they look like tiny white flakes on dogs fur or skin. Dandruff may also be accompanied by other symptoms such as bumps or scabs in the skin, and hair loss. Hair loss is very often a sign of canine Cushings disease.

As well as indicating a problem, dandruff is likely to make your dog itchy and uncomfortable. Keep an eye out for other skin issues such as hair loss, red skin or a greasy or smelly coat these could give your vet clues about the cause.

The symptoms of Cheyletiellosis are a red bumpy skin rash along with plenty of flaky skin in the hair coat, especially over the neck and along the back. Some dogs may scratch incessantly due to intense itchiness, but itching may be completely absent in other dogs.
