Wild wolves, breeds like the husky, and other than that I cant find any infrmation on the breeds that make up the germanshepherd dog. Sorry for quite a bad answer.German Shepherds are very basic, who's ancestors would trace down to the European wolf, much like the Huskies can be traced to North American Timber Wolves, yet the Husky and German Shepherd are two very different breeds with completely different temperaments as they were genetically selected for from two very different species of wolves.Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/What_mix_breed_makes_a_German_Shepherd#ixzz1H4C25daQ

Despite its primitive, wolf-like appearance the German Shepherd is a relatively new breed of dog, with their origin dating to 1899. As part of the Herding Group, German Shepherds are working dogs developed originally for herding sheep.
