How can I prevent my dog from suffering kidney failure? Because acute kidney failure is often caused by interactions with toxins and consuming tainted foods or foods they shouldnt ingest, such as grapes, this type is preventable in many instances.

If a dog is suffering from another disease that has the effect of reducing blood flow to the kidneys or causes an obstruction to the urinary tract, the resulting kidney failure can be treated. Hence the importance to not delay before consulting.

In dogs, chronic kidney failure is associated with aging, and in simple terms can be considered to be "wearing out" of the kidney tissues. The age of onset is often related to the size of the dog. For most small dogs, the early signs of kidney failure occur at about ten to fourteen years of age.
