Any such swallowed object can quickly result in an emergency situation, but bones may not only block the throat and limit or prevent proper breathing, they also may cause serious wounds to the esophagus. Even food items that reach the stomach safely can cause further harm.

Dogs can eat bones.

I used to feed dogs rib bones.

If you see retching, vomiting, lethargy, restlessness, bloody stool or black, tarry stool, or any other concerning symptoms you should take the dog to the vet right away.

Keep an eye out for these signs and hope it passes all the way through without problem.
