What happens if a dog eats a toad?

  • The mouth and the gut are most commonly affected as dogs tend to lick, pick-up, bite and eat toads, however, the eyes and nose are also commonly affected. These toxic effects occur almost instantly and result in the following clinical signs: Dogs may vomit for several hours, especially if the toad has been swallowed.
