8-10 Weeks: A German Shepherd puppy at this age should be fed approximately 4 times per day. 3 times worked best with one of my dogs, but 4 is the number that has most often worked best. The 3 times per day feeding was because my dog was a bit smaller than average but for a large GSD, 4 times per day is more appropriate. My puppies feeding schedules were usually:

What you feed your German Shepherd is just as important as how much you feed them. High-quality foods will have meat listed as the first ingredient, little to no animal bi-products, and low grain content.

Although preferences vary from dog to dog most German Shepherds gravitate toward items containing beef, lamb, fish, and chicken. Shepherds do like cheese, although this should be enjoyed in moderation, as it can cause gastrointestinal distress in these gentle companions.

When owning a German Shepherd, heres how to start your dogs training: Keep training sessions positive so your dog looks forward to training because they have good associations with it. 2 to 3 minutes is plenty of training for a puppy. Keep the sessions short, but have multiple training sessions throughout the day.

In summary, for adult dogs, feeding German Shepherds about 2.5 to 3.5 cups of quality kibble per day, twice a day, is a good starting point. Modify amount fed as required based on your dogs size, weight, age and overall daily activity.

German Shepherd puppies should be fed a diet designed for large dog breeds or specifically for German Shepherds. How Feeding Changes as A German Shepherd Puppy Gets Older. Your puppy should be fed three or four times a day up to the age of four months. After this age, two larger meals at regular times will be sufficient.

The most preferable way is to fill a bowl with a moderate amount of water, not too much. The feeding amount, frequency, length, and water requirements can always be changed. Thats why I recommend seeing your vet regularly to discuss important matters, such as how much to feed a German shepherd puppy.

According to our German Shepherd puppy feeding chart, your pup needs 5% of fat in their diet for healthy skin and coat. The recommended amount of carbs for your puppy is 5% to 8% and should come from fruits and vegetables such as peas and potatoes.
