Note 1 - Updated 29th July 2021 - the first show in 2021 was an Open show arranged by the East Anglian Club on 22nd May - the venue was outside and relevant Covid measures to be applied - this show went ahead, successfully. Note 2 - shows that have been crossed out have either&

  • The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was recognized by the Kennel Club of England in 1935. The first club show for the breed took place in August 1935 at Cradley Heath in the West Midlands where 60 dogs and bitches were entered. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier has been assigned the Terrier Group designation.

In early 1935, the first show was held on the bowling green of the Conservative Club at Cradley Heath and in May that year, the KC approved the name "Staffordshire Bull Terrier"; the first name requested, "Original Bull Terrier", was rejected by the Kennel Club.

The first Staffordshire Bull Terrier was registrered in 1931, 1933, two more and in 1934 twelve registrations again. In 1935, the year the club was formed, there were 174 registrations, just before the war in 1939 there were 310 Staffords registered, 1941 - 135, 1944 - 841 and in 1945 at the end of World War 2, 1097 registrered, therefor we can say that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier have endured the war reasonably well.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was officially registered by the Kennel Club in 1935 and the first club show for the breed took place in August 1935 at Cradley Heath in the West Midlands where 60 dogs and bitches were entered . The founder club was named The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club and is affectionately known as 'The Parent Club'.
