THE BRAQUE FRANCAIS The French pointing breed originated in southern France as early as the 1300s, some sources suggest, and was referred to as Braque du pays, meaning country Braques. Over a few centuries, populations of Braques became isolated throughout different regions and eventually developed different looks and hunting styles.
